That isn't a suspension system: it is the landing gear being held in position by punch-boxes. The landing system on its own wouldn't have enough ground clearance to take-off without a tail strike.

My favorite vanilla structure to build in sandbox are surface-to-air missles and choppers that release air-to-surface missles, with the only difference really being wheels for the ground-launched ones and no wings for the air-launched ones. Use a rocket in front, a wooden crate, the basic metal wheel, the basic yellow tail fin, and the basic yellow wings to make yourself something with surprisingly fearsome range and an easy flight pattern. The metal crate is much more resistant to plunger fire (my version of a point defense system), but is much heavier in flight.
