Bad Powder. Three falls in one run!

I went skiing on a cold sunny day after days of new snow. There was over 2 feet of new snow over the last couple of days. The lower part of Mt. Hood Meadows was skied out and the powder was packed. As I loaded on to the Express chair I learned Meadows just opened up the Cascade chair that had been closed for days. I had to go there for my first run of my day! The snow was untouched and wasn't tracked out yet, it looked so good! But to my surprise the first foot of snow was crusty and the 2nd foot was soft and fluffy. This caused my ski tips to dive down without any chance to pop up on top the crust layer. I wasn't expecting these conditions and it seemed everyone was having problems, although snow boarders were doing better than skiers.

I'll bet if you demo some fatter skis you're gonna discover you need them. I was in Silver Bowl today and was absolutely slaying it, with a huge smile on my face! The snow was great today up on Cascade!
