I feel jipped that this wasn't on the US release of No Substance. Definitely the best song from that album.

It was on the "Tested" album in a slighly different version, partially recorded during a sound check on tour, which I personally like the most. Btw it also wasn't featured on the Polish version of "No Substance".

I have always like Bad Religion. .....this song strikes me in a way that touches my heart. We all go through life together and we need each other. We were made for community and relationship with one another. We should be striving to be selfless, contributing to society, and caring for our fellow man and that mean associating with people in lower positions. I have a dream that nations can both be transformed and changed in good ways by following what Jesus taught. This is an awesome song :)

Kinda reminds me of the roofing job I had fixing roofs in Dade County after hurricane Andrew back in 93. The sky in this video reminds me of that job oh and the big ass hammers. Everything about that job was painful!!!

This song isn't about communism. It's about how we propped up men like gods, and our quest to destroy them.
@jondam6221
@jondam6221 5 жыл бұрын
it can perfectly be about communism, each with their own interpretation. I think the first verse is about the theory of socialism-communism and the second one is about the abuse of freedom of the capitalists individuals.

John Henry. O trabalhador negro que venceu uma perfuratriz a vapor em busca do sonho da liberdade, escavando túneis para ferrovia, morreu logo após isso. De certa forma livrou-se do racismo e das péssimas condições de trabalho que escravos tinham que suportar.

This version is the one that is an extra track on the European CD issue of the No Substance album, easily the best song, No Substance is so weirdly weak, it's as if the whole band decided to smoke weed their whole time in the studio. Jay Bentley would know heh, he also said that the problem with No Substance was they got to the studio with zero new songs and wrote em all in the studio with no rules at all. They over-corrected 2 years later when they had 70's rock star and producer Todd Rundgren who was maintaining the ship in the studio for bands like (80's Genesis) and a lot of commercial music, his first punk band, and that also ruined it, as things now were "way too controlled", Greg deferred to his 70's rock hero Rundgren and submitted to him, a thing they never repeated too, but yes "The New America" is slightly better, more B+ songs and a few A- songs but man, Rundgren had no idea how to record drums, poor Bobby's shoulder injury was starting to show too on the few fast tracks, but in a way that rejuvenated BR when Brooks Wackerman joined the band in 2002, The Process of Belief is so fucking killer, I got scared Greg couldn't handle the band alone and was confirmed right, he pulled it once, kinda, Brian Baker still co-wrote 2 songs and wrote one entirely on The Grey Race which is an amazing album, but NS and TNA was all Graffin except for "Believe It" which incidentally is on the list of the better tracks on that album, Brett co-wrote it and when they split song writing in half like usual again, I considered myself lucky to see the band from 2002 and on, because they couldn't put out another "meh" album and keep their dignity, glad they did! Sorry for the long rant, just thinking about why this was not included on the American version of the CD (it's on vinyl tho, but only my smart cousin ordered vinyl records in the 90's that I know of, for ridiculously low prices, sometimes for cheaper than on tape/cassette). I'm thinking Atlantic could have had something to do with it 🌠

You mean like how Cuba is miraculously pulling itself out of poverty with #1 indexes (math based) in Education, Medicine, Schools despite the still in place, illegal US embargo on the country, thank god for the countries that ignore it and maintain good diplomacy with them even if they are at best just social-democracies.

Somewhat wrong in my opinion... unsure if you will see this. They (BR) use the cross-buster as symbolism of any form of controlled thought and system. Graffin has said before that he has no problem with religion, but he does have a problem with organized religion (one/few controlling all... think Popes or [mind is blanking on Islam "near equivalent"]. The cross-buster is used for its psychological impact and its recognizable connotations (assumption) Anti-christian? Perhaps as collateral damage to a degree, but its not a main point of emphasis. As for communism again off. If anything you could call them socialist to a degree, but communism and socialism have HIGHLY different end goals.

James Johnson Let me humble myself for a moment if you have time can you discuss the difference between Socialism and Communism, also what role does Marxism play in each I know it's allot to ask but if you could just hit the main themes I'd be greatfull I think Socialism is some kind of money sharing government but these always turn out with tyranny in the end. Thank you!
