I've heard a lot of SOF guys have higher end watches like Rolex and omega that they take on missions because of the value it could be used as a barter or bribe if they get in trouble, separated, or lost

That’s something that was true about 20 years ago. It’s not as prevalent now. I did a pilots watch video similar to this one. I have several military pilot buddies who do wear slightly nicer watches for that reason. Special forces are slightly different. They are more function over brand

While SEALs did regularly wear the DW6600 in the 90’s up to the early 2000’a, the DW6640 is a new issue of the DW6600 with arguably less functionality. Why would a SEAL today wear a reissue of a 90’s watch when they could spend 50 bucks less and buy a GW6900 with more functionality including tough solar and atomic time sync. The answer is: he probably wouldn’t.
@SmugMrSmitty8 ай бұрын
I believe the issue would be the updating via satellite, if that signal is picked up by counter forces, your/units position could then be compromised...

The "kinder, gentler Army". Uhh, part of the reason I got out. Black berets and a stress card were such a let down to us NCO's. BNCOC leadership training only solidified my ETS. Hearing it in your voice brings it all back. Best of luck to ya!

A smart watch is the last thing you want in the military because it can be hacked and tracked the British military doesn't even allow that on missions.

Been a infantryman is the usmc for some time and worked with many other infantry guys. We all wear gshocks, Garmin gps watches, or other digital watches when we go on operations. Now In garrison, we wear a lot more in variety for sure.

@@allthingsrandom8137 $1200 / $1500 for mechanical watches yes, on the other hand quartz GSAR are $960 and they have several other models at $100 $200. Also the military have a reduction around 20% I got my GSAR for almost 15 years now.

Great list as far as the Luminox goes or should I say MB Microtech the tubes cut to half strength or even less I own a few that you can't even use in complete darkness any longer but I did get my money's worth out of every watch They never failed on any job and I won't hesitate to acquire another watch with tubes You cant beat the performance Thanks for sharing as always my friend and Stay Frosty 👍

Great video, It is interesting to know what whatches special forces use and why. I am looking for a tough work watch too, but the pirce tags of these are just too much for now. I am considering the Casio AQ-S810W-1AVEF. Tough solar, analog and digital, light and lume and 100 meter water resistance for 50$. Really amazing value and "G-Shock" ish looks
