The Lippert slide motor in my 2016 Winnebago View RV stopped working on the first night of a long road trip. While 1000 miles from home, I finally got it extended, but the next morning, it would not retract. What I did wrong, and what it took to fix it.

Thank you for your video and God's mechanical expertise...🤔 My 2013 Navion 24J slide started making noises near the refrigerator, the wiring harness under the seat was bunching up as the slide moved, I fished out all lose plastic parts and keeping an eye on the harness for now. Can imagine what a nightmare it would be if the wiring broke!

I have the same type slides on my '13 view profile 24g. Same symptoms. When I went through the flashing codes, it indicated a wiring problem. I started accessing the rear slide motor wiring on th driver side first and when I unplugged it at the topmost plug, one of the small pins in there was bent over so it would not plug in properly. I very carefully straightened it out and plugged it back in very carefully and ever since it has worked perfectly. I had been having intermittent problems getting it in and out ever since it was new. Usually one side would hesitate and the slide motors would get out of sync, jamming the slide from going out or in. The final time before I was able to find the real problem, I thought I would have to drive it almost 200 miles home with the rear slide out, but after 2 or three tries the emergency procedure worked to get it in. Then after I got home, I started the disassembly and found the real problem. I sincerely considered ordering a new motor, because our dealer said that was what they would do if I brought it there, at around 6 to 7 hundred just for the motor. A little research showed I could get the motor for less than half that, but I got lucky and found the real problem as I stated for basically just some investment of my time. Now the slideouts I thought were glitchy are transformed into the most reliable part of my motorhome

Great videos! I have a 21 foot slide with the same Schwintek system you have. My fear is the slide not coming in and how in the world could I push such a large slide in manually. I ordered a spare motor from ebay and hopefully will never have to use it. I did learn there are basically 2 types of motors....500:1 and 300:1. I have both as spares. I could not get an angle on mine to see which I have so I grabbed them both. Earlier this year my slide started to go out on its own. Yup....thats right....it would extend at random times all the way out. Luckily I noticed Forest River had a recall on the switch and controller for 2019/20 Georgtown MH's. I called them and they checked my serial numbers and sure enough I had one that was recalled even though my MH is a 2017. They replaced it. I park next to a chain link fence and luckily I left enough room for the slide to extend or that would have really caused problems with hitting the fence. Anyway....sorry to be long winded. Keep up the videos!

First of, I like watching all your RV videos. Second, I am pretty sure I saw you driving around Bonita. I'm from San Diego and live around Otay Ranch. I'm pretty happy to know you have a Tesla and cant wait to see what kind of video you'll be making for the Tesla. I was driving my Model 3 when I saw you :)

Thanks for the good information. My 2016 View is 24G model with rear bed slide the wood framing came loose with a big boom when moving the room I used better screws and added a bracket that I made then I used the dry spray PTFE and lubricated well inside tracks and motor. The room works fine now but I have seen many people with the early Schwintek system like mine that have have big problems. Lippert does not use that system instead Power Gear designed a better system for the later coaches. I spent years with these systems and the one common issue I saw was owners would leave cabinet doors open or seats reclined in the travel of the room tracks are too frail to handle the stress of an obstruction. here is a good video from Schwintek on lubrication for slides. kzbin.info/www/bejne/bnzFh4V8gtRkiMk Happy travels grandpa Ron

Does yours have a way to retract it manually? Its tedious but it can be done!

Ron, I just picked up a View Profile 24DL. I have already leveraged many of your ideas. On the slide, the 24DL has an access point under the bed where one could apply a wrench ( electric drill with a socket ) to manually retract the slide. Being a newbee , I do not know if this is typical or unique for a RV. Or perhaps it's useless. I would like to know your thoughts.

Quick question.... the Lippert 236575 motor that ordered - is that the 300:1 or 500:1 ratio? There are 2 different ones. Thanks.

Ron did you get a copy of the Winnebago schematics? I looked at the drawings on line but they really don't give the details needed to figure everything out, at least to me.

I looked at them but didn’t help much. Controller code said wiring but it could be anywhere or even a bad motor. Turned out to be connector.

Hey gramps- Gramps here! Me and the head master women are yakking it up over a 2021 view j model. The twin bed version. Only it’s used. Makes me wonder wonder if it’s a lemon? These units are expensive. Living in California our DMV robs us to the poor house mandating exceedingly high DMV. I realize insurance is going to be high as well. We we’ll eventually be forced to move as the state is quickly sucking us middle class dry. Would you wait to buy a motor home or? Buy/relocate in a more retiree friendly state?

I bought my coach used. New coaches have their own issues. Motor homes are expensive right now. They also have ongoing expenses so you will need to use it often to get your money’s worth. Good luck with your decision.

@@ontheroadwithron2432 - Thanks Ron, wife and I talked, we are sticking with car travel only for now.We want to see how and where the economy goes. Inflation has us on the caution side of big purchases. I researched a couple of used units, $80,000 is pretty high for a two year old unit. Doing the math, I don’t believe we’d come anywhere near that kind of $$$ considering the years it’d require travel time. Its merely a matter of convenance only.

Well, not totally sure. Problem was a poor contact in the connector in the wall. Maybe it wasn’t fully engaged. After plugging it in and out a few times, I taped it up and put everything back. Has been working fine ever since.
