They give credits to them because it’s their cover, because of that the original singers who wrote it don’t get the credits because they pretty much did nothing to get that credit in someone’s else’s song. It’s like if a someone makes a movie but the person who was walking Down the street gets all the credits. It just wouldn’t make sense because they didn’t do anything in the movie right? That’s the same for a cover of a song, The person who puts in the effort of singing, playing the instruments and editing it gets the credits even if its not their original song that they wrote
