To add more context to this scene, as if Catherine isn't badass enough: Her husband Peter LITERALLY just died unexpectedly. Her first order of official business (in the show "The Great") was to hold this hearing on the legality of divorce in Russia.

@soumidas6873 "The Great" about Catherine the Great, of Russia. Highly fictionalized but still does a great job of hitting the important parts, getting pretty much all of the characters right in terms of whether they actually existed and what roles they served, but presented through a lens of comedic genius, fast paced dialogue, magical realism, anachronisms galore (in particular, the soundtrack), the performances by every single cast member... I cannot say enough good things about this show other than it had to end earlier than it should have. It is a MARVEL and an absolute DELIGHT to behold! 😀

It’s a show called The Great on Hulu Edit: Where to watch: Hulu only Premise: This show is a comedy series based upon the life of Catherine the Great of Russia. How she took over Russia from her husband and made Russia one of the best countries ever during her ruling. It is a COMEDY so be aware that the historical accuracy is slim to none.

@samdurfee60932 ай бұрын
It’s kinda shit though. Full of historical inaccuracies. Rather than displaying the actual good deeds Catrina The Great did for Russia and her people the show instead decided to super impose very modern feminist ideals. The show would have you believe that her rule was controversial because she’s a woman. When in truth her rule was unprecedented because she was the daughter of a Prussian Duke not a member of the Royal family. She was in all due respect an outsider usurping the Russian Throne. The Previous ruling monarch was the Kings Grand Mother who ruled for nearly her entire life as her first son had died young and his son (Catrina’s Husband) had yet come of age to rule. A very classic case of “Modern Sensibilities” replacing a compelling story of history.

All the men in the comments acting like many women don't lose shit in divorces. I don't think spouses (men or women) are entitled to anything acquired before the marriage but if they are either the unemployed or only pt during the marriage so they can be the main caregiver/homemaker, then yes they deserve half of anything acquired during the marriage. Kelly Clarkson is a good example of the husband getting half even though he didn't work for years because he was the main caregiver to the children and that allowed her the freedom to chase all the lucrative opportunities that made her the money. The best way to make sure you keep everything is actually putting in the work to make your marriage last, unfortunately so many men and women can't communicate, listen, sacrifice, forgive and all the other necessary things it takes to make a marriage last. Of course i don't mean staying in an abusive marriage.

They didn't have any choice did they with half of their adult years spent in pregnancy. There were very few comfy jobs back then with the exception of nobels and merchants and also them had to travel for days by horse or on foot in many occasions. They just could not provide as much and were too weak (during pregnancy) and unavailable to make major contributions on productivity . Also war and disease , famine looming on the horizon like is a casual Friday didn't make anything better. With no advancement in technology, with no social benefits, with no civil rights, with no change of the politic system from because of inheritance to an elected, with no wide availability of education and lack of major wars I can't see how would feminsim allow to progress.
