Chad n Jolene, you probably already know this but I will say it anyways, in my 44 years of experience with motor homes and camper trailers,....this is my thoughts. If the top back left is separating like he said then this most likely a structural problem, these vintage campers mostly used 2x2 wood for the framing ( structure ) of the walls and often the roof as well, a common problem is water infiltration due to lack of proper maintenance. Every 60-90 days you are suppose to go around the RV and look at the joints and check the condition of the sealant, many people neglect to do this especially around the roofs edge, thus as you travel down the road and the RV moves it flexes ( this is normal ) however the joints will move back and forth a little and thus eventually the seal will fail and this is why it has to be checked often and resealed or repaired BEFORE it becomes an issue. SO water must have gotten in over time the frame in that corner is compromised aka: ROTTEN and thus there is no more structural integrity and that is why it is separating and actually allowing more water to infiltrate adding to the problem. either the exterior or interior wall will have to be removed in that area and the wooden frame will have to be repaired, sounds bad but everything is fixable, just depends on how much time and money you are willing to invest fixing it, CAREFUL consideration should be taken as there is a high probability that there is black mold behind that.
@snoopu26012 жыл бұрын
Yup it's not what most people don't want to get into. I don't think Chad wants to get into a big project like that. Like you said anything can be fix, but buying it and then getting deep into fixing it I can't see it being worth the money and time. I seen video's where people tore campers apart and restored them. They might as well just have built one from scratch.

Hey Chad I had the same exact Winnebago motor home 20 yrs ago . and the only problem I ever had with it was vapor locking if the temperature was over 90 degrees . it would shut off going down the road and I would turn off the key count to 5 and start it up and drive but never even slowed down much lol. It would go 10 or 15 miles and do it again , after 10 times of that I got the idea to wrap aluminum foil around the fuel line right at the front of the carburator, squeezing it tight to the metal fuel line and it never did it again. but those motor home's have character unlike the flat fronted giant windshield vacation boxes they have now.

in the 1970s one of my Uncles was a Executive for Xerox and he and my Aunt used to go Camping a lot they opened up a Rental Business in the Washington, D.C. area for RVs and they bought a Fleet of those Winnebagos they used to drive one to New York to visit family and my Dad was always amazed on how much Gasoline cost them Gas was usually about .30cents a gallon and i remember one time my Uncle put almost $80.00 to top off the fuel tanks

Yikes what is with all the friggin hate on this video, the same people calling this a money pit are the same people spending $150,000 to air bag some crappy off year 60’s Cadillac restomod . I own a 1968 Ute Liner, a lesser known brand than Winnebago (Dodge Chassis and Running a gear) . It is extremely well built, I have lived in it on and off for about two years and are currently traveling the Northeast with it , it’s all original. No excessive mold and minimal money out in it. I think they guy did a super creative budget approach to the interior And so what if the guy wants to re do it?? Like it’s a fun project, I work in the auto restoration industry and I swear it is comments and attitudes like this that make me miss the seasonal car shows.

Even if you two DON'T buy this cool 73 Motorhome ...then look for possibly another vintage one ...i don't think you will regret it if the price is right . I own a 69 Dodge motorhome ...most ppl would say it's uglier than sin ...and actually that's how i felt at first about it . But it's ugliness slowly grew on me & i don't think i would ever part with it for the low price i got for . It runs well & i would never think about any long road trips with it EVEN if gas was 99 cents a liter . Most of the time it's parked in my treed in yard ....and I love just chilling in there some days ...and some of my best sleeps are in that motorhome of mine .

It's the backup plan if the house burns down or the zombie apocalypse. I wonder how much of the levels dettuce was partaken in inside that winnebego. You just know that alot, is the amount.

That RV has a filon roof. Similar to fiberglass. Since it has been leaking, there is most likely rotten wood at the corner of wall and roof. Most likely will need rotten wood replaced then resealed.

I don't know how they allow them on the road when they are new, theres nothing to them structurally. Unless you plan on welding a box and building it over, its just a bunch of composite board , thin plywood , tin and gorilla glue, mostly gorilla glue. When you find one that looks decent, it has been parked in the same spot for 30 years, once you go down the highway a 100 miles it will all come apart. It's great if you are going to park it in the driveway and sell out of it , put a rubber roof on it . I wouldn't plan on going far, or often with it.
