The main reason why this movie flopped is that it came out at the same time as the first Despicable Me movie, I think kids were more drawn to that movie over this one cause this one is more complex and adults didn't really want to give an animated movie that much attention. It's unfortunate that Megmind falls into that area of being too mature for kids and being judge by adults just for being an animated movie, it's still a stigma that hurts lots of great animated movies and shows.

It's pretty crazy to me how much Megamind was ahead of its time. It got decent reviews back then but nobody really talked about it but now in this day and age when there's more superhero media that tries to tell unique stories and deconstruct the superheros as individual people, Megamind surely fits in

@Kait_B_ his sped ability only affects himself. I doubt he can affect the speed of sound. So his speed ability wouldn't be of any use as he'd be unable to listen/hear the sounds he is making. It’s kind of alarming that some reactors seem to almost side with Hal. They expect Hal to get the girl in some way. Im glad you guys picked up on what was happening. I think a lot of people (especially hormonal teenagers) could learn from the themes in this movie. Placing conditions or expecting reward for acts of kindness is borderline predatory. You see kids like this in high shool, that have this notion. And it can lead down some dangerous paths. *A genuine act of kindness is given freely, with nothing expected in return.*

I love the detail of the eyes being their original colour when a character uses the device to look like someone else, it's a great clue if you spot it. Using the weather to emphasise an emotion is called pathetic fallacy, it's a common and effective technique! Also, although they use a recognisable voice cast, I personally think everyone embraced their roles well and gave some decent voice acting. We don't see it often these days when live action celebs get involved.

This movie is one of the most underrated animations ever. It subverted the superhero tropes so well. There were so many hidden detail and easter eggs. I think the reason Megamind mispronounced so many words because he wasn't allowed to go to school and had to teach himself English. The mispronunciations were ones that someone who isn't a native speaker and doesn't understand how illogical the english language is. "School" wouldn't look like it has a "sk" sound. Maybe he pronounces them that way because he is so intelligent that he assumes everyone else in saying it wrong because it doesn't make sense.

Someone might have already mentioned it but yes Metroman was heavily inspired by Elvis. Elvis himself loved the idea of being a superhero or a secret agent, he was rather inspired by Captain Marvel Jr. aka one of the Shazam family Freddy Freeman. Also the original story for Megamind, or Mastermind as he was called, was more of an R rated comedy. So glad this movie has made such a comeback over the years, it was so overshadowed by Despicable Me originally. Great reaction.

As a woman, I have interacted with many a Hal's. I thankfully married a Megamind though lol. I think the big thing is what the Oak said about being genuine is absolutely what it is. You can usually tell when someone is only pushing things THEY like onto you to try and set up intimate scenarios, and when someone is genuinely doing what they believe makes you happy. Hal gets rejeceted? He becomes comically cruel. Megamind gets rejected? He reflects on what he did wrong, but as soon as Roxy is under threat, he's there to help her out of genuine affection. And the intent is what separates it as either creepy or endearing.

These young men need to know that being nice isn't the same as being good. They need to know that love and attraction isn't transactional. @worthybutter2004 The only thing relationship wise was that he lied about himself to seem more endearing instead of being straightforward. But the reason he's better than Hal is because he recognized his mistake and never took Roxy's anger and mirrored it back, he instead just strived to be better and she returned to him on her own once he was.

By the end of the first day as a superhero, Lois who is tough as nails, was crying her eyes out in Kent's kitchen. Because she could not handle not being fast enough to rescue all the people that needed help. So I don't understand how MetroMan could give up on helping people. I have to disagree with Quinn, comparing animated movies isn't fair. We can't compare a fantasy movie with a drama or a romantic comedy because they are completely different and have different purposes. Animated is just a style, not a genre, so comparing with others that are more fantasy/family films while this is a super hero comedy isn't ideal. But as always, great video! I had a lot of fun watching it!
