Regarding the Filipino Finger Biting (lol): This superstition is not tied to luck but more of old "horror" folklore. Old natives who live in rural provinces/"boonies" used to believe that otherworldly creatures from the old world would come out at night and hang out in trees. And generally, it's regarded to be disrespectful to point at someone. So by pointing at a tree in the dark, you could unknowingly be disrespecting a creature of the night and so before they can retaliate, you apologize and make amends by punishing yourself and biting your finger.

as an asian, nothing scares me more than when I'm walking in the dark and there's trees or overhangings. In my culture, we also believe ghosts and spirits live in trees. There was one story I heard about my uncle when he was fishing in his village late at night (apparently fish and sea creatures are more active at night time), he heard noises, almost like whining or crying near some trees/bushes so he decided to climb on top. When he climbed to the tree and shined his torch, he saw the face of a kid looking straight at him. The funny thing is he doesn't believe in spirits/ghosts but always seems them so he wasn't scared when he saw it. But my Uncle's brother (my other uncle) believe's in ghosts but never see's them LOL. life is funny.

Another filipino superstitions that might be interesting is is that whenever we leave from a wake, we have to go somewhere else first before going home in order to expel bad spirits that may have got attached to you when you went to the wake. It's called "Pagpag" and someone actually made a movie based on it.
