Season Three - Episode Nine: "Kafkaesque"
Episode Description:
As Hank's hospital bills stack up, Skyler hatches a plan. Walt and Gus come to a better understanding. Jesse, looking for more independence, pursues a new opportunity.
Episode Overview:
Their partnership renewed, Walt and Jesse have resumed production in their lab in order to meet Gus’s quota. Though Walt is focused on the task at hand, Jesse is unhappy when, after making some back-of-the-envelope calculations, he realizes that they are being paid a mere pittance compared to what Gus is making on the deal. And to make matters worse, when Jesse points out that they are delivering more than promised, Walt doesn’t seem to care. Meanwhile, as Agent Gomez applauds his foresight regarding the resurgence of blue meth in the drug market, Hank tells everyone of the mysterious warning he received just prior to the attempt on his life.
In the wake of the latest assessment by Hank’s spinal surgeon, Marie begins to see just how difficult - and expensive - his rehabilitation will be. But when both the doctor and the hospital administrator advise her to adhere closely to the insurance company guidelines, Marie vows to do whatever it takes to see that Hank walks again. Meanwhile Saul recommends that Jesse buy a nail salon to launder their illegal income, while Walt negotiates a long-term deal with Gus that will net them millions more than originally promised. Yet, unaware of the untold riches that await him, Jesse hatches a plan to siphon off drugs from Gus’s shipments for him and his pals to sell on their own.
Following a surprise visit at home, Skyler does her best to convince Ted Beneke that their affair is over. Then, watching Marie prepare to go on the warpath against their health insurance company, she comes up with a plan to pay for Hank’s rehab. As she and Walt are consoling Marie over the insurer’s latest denial of a claim, Skyler says they can pay the uninsured medical expenses. When Marie presses her to explain where the money will come from, Walt listens uncomfortably as Skyler claims that Walt won a fortune gambling. And when during a moment alone Walt objects, Skyler makes it clear that, because she suspects he had something to do with the attempt on Hank’s life, it is his responsibility to pay whatever it takes to help him recover.

Yeah Breaking Bad ensures every character has flaws but also redeeming qualities. It goes against the tendancy for people to want to categorise people as "fully bad" or "fully good" when its genuinely more complicated than that.
@Tink7200
@Tink7200 2 жыл бұрын
Really funny how this is significantly more immoral than most of the stuff Walter did. But some people act like Walter was the sole reason bad things happened to Jesse. Jesse had absolutely no reason to do this. He was a millionaire at this point, but he was still willing to risk his and Walter’s lives by stealing from Gus and ruining the lives of people trying to recover just because he was bitter about his profit percentage.

Yeah, Walts decision to not save some junkie who threatened him with police before is equally messed up that jesse tries to sell meth to the people by digging up their addictions in the past and now in rehab. I never really understood this. Seems like it’d be a lot easier to sell meth other places than an AA meeting
@josephnissenson3252
@josephnissenson3252 3 жыл бұрын
It's not AA it's general rehab. AA is specifically for alcoholics where as these people are former hard drug addicts. During this time they were also selling under Gustavo's nose so getting a bunch of former addicts to relapse in similar fashion to Jesse is an easy and discreet way to get a bunch of new repeat customers while keeping everything lowkey. Some recovered addicts are unshakable but alot actually go to great lengths to structure their lives around avoiding their addiction so it wouldn't be too hard to get them back into it

@@josephnissenson3252 I'm sorry for bothering you but could you also explain to me why Jesse did this, like, what's going through his mind when he decided to do this? He was earning a lot in his work in the lab, so this could not have been for money, am I right? Was this just like a "f*ck you" to Gustavo because Jesse was pissed that their boss's earnings were so much more compared to his and Walt's, as he vented in the beginning of this episode?
@josephnissenson3252
@josephnissenson3252 3 жыл бұрын
@@themask8221 i feel like there's 2 reasons. 1: just a fuck you to Gus and Walt because he was selling the excess supply from their cooks; something Walt wanted to leave for Gus which Jesse viewed as basically giving away free meth. He was mad at gus for the exact reasons you describe. Reason 2: psychologically he was sick of being the "second cook" to everything so to speak. Ever since Walt came among he feels as though he's just been the assistant and errand boy and now under Gus he's literally just an employee (of an illegal business but essentially just an employee). Jesse just wanted to go back to the good old days of cooking and selling whenever he wanted with his boys and missed being his own boss. The rehab meetings were the safest place to indulge in that fantasy as Gus wouldn't be on to them
