We live in Webster TX (Southeast of Houston) and we have a pair of Crested Caracaras that hang out in some woods and prairie right behind our house. Tons of species here, this year we got a purple finch come by and a few pine siskins. A few years back we also got a Rose-Breasted Grosbeak stay the winter, so rare! Also, if you ever want to see some sparrows, we got tons. Chipping Sparrows, Lincoln Sparrows, Field Sparrows, and even a Swamp Sparrow in our backyard! At first I thought the Swamp Sparrow was just a Lincoln Sparrow until I noticed it was noticeably different. I then immediately knew it was a Swamp Sparrow. Also we have some very tame Orange Crowned and Yellow Rumped Warblers as well as a lot of Goldfinches and other average feeder birds you would expect. Lots of birds to be seen in Texas, glad you enjoyed!

I'm in League City. We get house finches, yellow rumped warblers, goldfinches, Robins and cedar wax wings in winter time. The only raptors I see here are barn owls and Cooper hawks.

I live in south Texas and it's kind of wild to me how the birds you go searching for are the ones that just live at my neighborhood park.

That’s what we found really cool about it. Most things that are new for us there are so common in the region!

Loving your videos! I grew up in Wisconsin but live in Texas so I have some special appreciation for this one. I once saw a greater roadrunner bust up a group of sparrows in a low bush, and devour one of them. Tough little Texans.

I see Northern Cardinals and blue jays daily, and saw a lesser goldfinch during the snow storm. I’m from LA and I’m always excited to see the wildlife out here.

Great video! I grew up in the west part of Texas, very much the desert - but roadrunners were not uncommon in my area. Also the first time I ever saw an owl was one of the tiny species that can live in cactuses (I forget the name of it now, it was a loooong time ago).

It was exciting to think of seeing a roadrunner...I caught a glimpse of one once in AZ, but never a full sighting. Beautiful!

I live in South Texas. Whenever I see the Crested Caraca they are often in pairs. So much so that when I see one I look for another. Even in your video, when you saw the first one I was thinking, where's the second one? ... and then it predictably showed up.

Before I knew as much about birds as I do now, I mistaked a lesser goldfinch for an American goldfinch while in Utah. I looked back at old photos realizing the darker back. Also saw a condor and roadrunner.

The Caracara is fantastic! Great siting! The Greater Roadrunner's are quite comical here in our back field. You can watch them being harassed by the Anna's hummingbirds. We had a roadrunner come up to our sliding glass door and peck at it. Probably saw it's reflection 😅 As always... Happy Birding 😊 🐦

I'm not a bird of pray expert but we think we saw 4 Caracara chasing a rabbit in a open field in East Tx 5 months ago. One of them was actually chasing the rabbit on foot.

Well-done! Thanks for this presentation. The Crested Caracara seems to be expanding its range, here on the Coastal Plain, in SE Texas, with more sightings in the sprawling Houston metro area, though I have not yet seen them inside the Interstate 610 “Loop,” where Ospreys are a relatively common sight, and urbanized Bald Eagles are known to nest quite near the Texas Medical Center.

Did you guys travel down to the Rio Grande Valley? Great birding location. I've been guiding for the birding festival down there in November for nearly 20 years now, minus a few years. It's a great birding opportunity. You gentlemen should definitely consider it. Take care.
