So i feel you struggled to understand rini's mom's character. She's an upper class indian woman, most of whom are very judgemental. They judge your clothes, your tastes, your ENGLISH, etc. They claim to be all modern until there's an issue, where they'll be more conservative and judgemental than anyone. Late age pregnancy is uncommon but it's actually acceptable in most parts of India specially in rural areas.. people get pregnant at later age in hopes of having a son. the "modern" cities make it a big issue
