I must have replayed this video dozens and dozens of times, over the years, and it’s still as great as the first time I heard it. Dr. Kermode was really on fire, in this review. It is, without doubt, one of his greatest rants.

This movie was horrible. I so agree about demott mulroney , I dont know how he had a run of movies in the late 90s I guess people liked his looks but a very good underated movie called copy cat which was fantastic but came out the year after seven so got lost in that mix but demott is so boring that I loved just seeing the two female leads in their scenes holly hunter & sigourney weaver. He was also a total bore in my best friends wedding I couldnt figure out why Cameron Diaz character who was rich beautiful and giving up college just to be a sports writers traveling wife I guess. That made no sense to me anyway bc if they had kids was the family gonna stay in hotel rooms with the beat reporter ? No like any family where a spouse travels they have a home base. In this movie he was really boring. I hated the family ! I didnt get what was so hip or cool about them. The youngest sister was just a total bitch. The other sister was just there. They had the def gay brother and the older brother who smoked weed & demott the oldest. Like what's so wacky and cool about these people? The gay deaf brother ? That was very heavy handed plus they were all so mean to sjps character who was at least trying. Then u had the moms disease than the most telegraphed twist I ever saw the sister getting with demott and sjp getting with the brother. Also why did everything have to be solved by Christmas. Like demott giving the ring to the sis? Oh & the bitch sister even suddenly gets a man with the guy who popped her cherry I'm guessing 10 years before . Horrible. Diane Keaton I never ever got and back when she was young in the godfather I never understood how michael could go from appolonia to her character . It's like going from Filet mignon to hot dogs

I used to think Diane Keaton was a really excellent actress, but for decades now she has been appearing in dreadful, syrippy smaltzy rubbish such as Baby Boom and Parenthood. Shame really, she's really talented when given the right script. I suppose bills need to be paid, blah blah blah blah....
