someone probably already told you by now, but complementary colors do have a science behind it! in the case of red and green, they're complementary because green is made from mixing blue and yellow together, while red is a primary color. since primary colors are red, yellow and blue, green is missing the red; that's why putting it next to red in a painting makes it feel "complete", or "whole", hence why the name. same thing goes for orange(made from red and yellow) with blue; and purple (red and blue) with yellow. hope this helped!

I didn’t know it was called hyper pop so now I have a new key word to search. I naturally just kind of knew purple blue and red were darker and used them for shadows but seeing you actually line things up with tonal value was super helpful. And finally seeing you colour based on the regular colours you can see first then adding colour burn layers is probably gonna be a game changer for me because it’s gonna help me not overdo it and know which parts to desaturate to balance things. Actua a really freakin helpful tutorial. Thanks!

For someone who's never made a tutorial before, this is amazing. It's to-the-point and doesn't ramble, and it's funny as well. It explains the style and how to do it in a very understandable way.
@viktorlindqvist53082 жыл бұрын
Did an experiement using *all the colors* some time ago and what I found was that the further away the colours were from each other on the color wheel the higher the contrast - and vice-versa (or however that is spelled). It's similar to the relationships of colour like you can more easily switch between colours if they are darker or lighter&desaturated or desaturated. Well yeah thats about it. I drew a goat with it and the pelt looked convincing. The thing to keep in mind was that the painting ended up looking not unlike something that translates body heat into color.

This was incredibly comprehensive for a first tutorial! You did a great job explaining everything and providing a good amount of visual reference as well! Especially saying you color your lineart, wow. I'm an intermediate artist, but sometimes I still have a hard time finding what makes another artist's art have that unique pop. I feel like a lot of tutorials tend to leave that bit out, but when you said you're just coloring pre-existing lineart it really clicked for me.
