We stayed at that same campground in Wall, SD. We agree it was nice. The Wall, SD post office .... right across the street from Wall Drug, will accept general delivery. We used that to pickup an Amazon order when we came to the Bad Lands in late May this year (2019). Oh the name of the gas station roof that you parked under is called a canopy. I know you knew that but couldn't think of it :-)

I hope you enjoyed the Badlands as much as we did. We also visited the Minuteman Missile National Historic Site (reservations needed) which was awesome. We loved Custer - drove the loop right at sunrise and were greeted by hundreds of buffalo and wildlife. Loved the drive up to the needles, amazing. Went to Mount Rushmore early the next morning (just after sunrise) and had the entire place to ourselves for over 30 minutes. Badlands were gorgeous. We had two days there (after some rain like you) but the rain only served to make the Badlands color more vibrant and intense. Spent 8 days in the area; next time we plan on spending a few weeks. Glad you're enjoying your visit! Safe travels.

We absolutely did! Just wished we had a little more time there, but with the long 4th of July holiday weekend approaching we'd have been stuck in that $41/night campground for another 5+ nights which we didn't want to do. If the weather had been cooler we probably would have stayed at the BLM land just outside Badlands NP for the holiday. If/When we return, we'll have to plan it in the Spring or Fall so we can utilize the public land out there and spend more time - would love to visit the Minuteman site. Custer/Mt. Rushmore area will be our next video, stay tuned and thanks for watching!

That was a stop on the first bus tour I took. Wall Drug is MASSIVE!! There is also a church in the store!! We drove thru the Badlands. We went to Yellowstone and Crazy Horse Monument. When we were at Mammoth Springs, it was the 100th anniversary of the dedication of the North entrance and my sister, her husband, and I met Teddy Roosevelt IV, who was there to rededicate the entrance! Pretty cool! Plus, we met the guy that restored a 1936 open air bus that Yellowstone had back in the day and we got to go on a quick ride thru the park in the bus!!!

Thank you so much! All in all, we're pretty happy with the way it turned out... I get frustrated with myself because in order to get those close up wildlife shots we have to use our long lens but the stabilization doesn't work very well and you either have to use a tripod or be extremely still for the shots to turn out halfway decent. It's hard to imagine how people thrived in such a harsh environment, would have been something to witness for sure.

the whole prairie dog fascination cracks me up b/c they are like pests that are a dime a dozen here in CO. @LowsJuan5 жыл бұрын
Yes, and not in this day and age but prairie dogs use to kill horses. They were a real threat. Bet you are wondering how. They dig deep small circumference holes in the ground perfect for a horses hoove to fit into and snap their goes the horse's leg. Horses have to be euthanized after breaking a leg.

Lost Comma - Both TJ & I at one point in our lives worked with horses, so we can definitely understand that issue. Horse farm owners today still have to be vigilant about holes in pastures so horses don't break legs. Prairie Dogs would be a nightmare on a horse farm.

@EmbracingDetours5 жыл бұрын

Hi Guys Gals and Fur Babies, This was a great place to visit. We were in the area over the Fourth of July in 2018. Stayed just South of Rapid City. Saw everything you are showing and then some. The backroads into Badlands were fun. We loved the Artsy Buffalo in Custer, SD and the Presidents statues in Rapid City. Dances With Wolves is my all-time favorite movie. A lot of it was filmed in the area. The coolest experience was when one of the storms rolled through. They were doing fireworks about a half East in a small town. Along with this we had a lightning storm going on to the West up in the Black Hills. We had a fireworks show in Stereo!

with hail you never know...you can have one part of town hit really bad and the other not but hail is not to be messed with once you've lived through hail that destroyed every single roof and car in our entire town. And I don't think the badlands needs more than one day. Custer SP however we've gone multiple times for a week each.

Hail really scares me... you get very little forewarning and it can be devastating. I know many RVers who have had their rigs severely damaged or even totaled due to hail.
