Shoutout to Bruno, Em, and Royce. This was one of the defining songs of middle school for me. I was a 13-year-old kid who tried to act funny to make friends, never realizing I had to just be me to make the friends who mattered. I was a kid who made up stories, drew cartoons alone in his room, never thinking too far into the future. Ironically, I was too trapped in my imagination to think big. I don't regret it, or else I wouldn't be the man I am today. Now I'm 23, and I'm proud to say I've accomplished more than I ever dreamed. I went to college, went abroad, and now I'm putting myself through school to do a job that won't make millions of dollars, but I hope will make a difference for others. And I'm not done yet! I'm still that same kid who likes to write stories and draw pictures, and no matter what, I'm gonna publish those stories someday. The other day, I felt the saddest I've felt for a while, and it's because this social distancing stuff is finally getting to me. I felt alone and like I wasn't doing anything fulfilling with my life being stuck inside, and that hurt to think about. But now, listening to one of the most inspirational songs of my teen years, I've been reminded of all I've accomplished and all I still need to do. For all of you out there who feel as uplifted by this song as I do, you're not alone in this pandemic. I know you don't know me, and I don't know you, but I know that however alone you might feel, you still have things you know you have to do or want to do. Just keep pushing, bit by bit, and you'll get there, even if you didn't get there the way you thought you would. Someday, you're gonna read my stories, and the rest of the world and I will read yours.

When I first heard this song, I was a medical student who many told he had no future, faced a ton of racism, hazing, and now 8 years later I am a professor of ophthalmology and surgeon at one of the best universities in the country. I love listening to this song and thinking “your hate is what gave me the strength” because 8 years ago when I first heard this song, I thought it was hopeless at times. This song reminds me where I came from and that you gotta fight.

I'm glad that you got through it, but, it seems that you have held onto a bit of a grudge. Im not saying this is your case but some people seem to like to achieve things mostly so they can prove other people wrong or prove that you're better than someone (I used to do this) and I'd say that type of thinking doesn't really make you happy; even if you do succeed and prove them wrong In my opinion the most reasonable man only has to prove things to himself

Unpopular opinion: but if Bruno Mars continued this style of music he would still be dominating the charts. Edit: I really didn’t think I had to explain what I meant but there’s too many confused souls in this thread. I KNOW Bruno STILL dominates charts with his newer genre, notice how I used “still” in my original comment implying that yes his old AND current genre are both hits. I was saying that his older style would‘ve worked post 2010s because he’s timeless. Now that you’ve seen this, please reread the original comment before lighting me up over a simple opinion 😂
@jonahestabillo1064 жыл бұрын
What do you mean
@foreversimgirl8284 жыл бұрын
Jonah Estabillo if he continued this slow love song type of music instead of this new era of like old 80s style pop, like “uptown funk” and “finesse” he would’ve still been popular. I can’t explain what genre he’s doing now, but if you compare bruno mars old songs like “lighters”, “grenade”, and “nothin on you” to his newer stuff you can tell a major difference in style. So I was just making a point if he stuck to his older style he would still be able to do really well in today’s pop. I get artists need to evolve to fit the trends, but honestly old Bruno is timeless and shouldn’t have been one of those artists.
@Lukas199724 жыл бұрын
My man, Bruno is still topping the charts, the music is decent, and he's doing his thing and evolving as an artist. Besides, the critics have been positive about his last album, and i think he's happy making that type of music, so i hope he continues doing what ever makes him go. But i get your point, he and his songs was lady killers
@earljairo65604 жыл бұрын
@Forever Simgirl I agree on you. If he just continue this type of genre maybe he will be the favourite artist of everyone. p.s: no hate just opinion
@foreversimgirl8284 жыл бұрын
Luka Rangelov Im a girl. I didn’t say he’s doing bad or is unsuccessful, I was just voicing an opinion that his older music is so timeless that it would’ve still worked for this new generation of pop music.

[Chorus: Bruno Mars] This one's for you and me Livin' out our dreams We are right where we should be With my arms out wide, I open my eyes And now all I wanna see Is a sky full of lighters A sky full of lighters [Verse 1: Eminem] By the time you hear this, I will have already spiraled up I would never do nothin' to let you cowards fuck my world up If I was you I would duck, or get struck like lightnin' Fighters keep fightin', put your lighters up, point 'em skyward, uh Had a dream, I was king; I woke up, still king This rap game's nipple is mine for the milking 'Til nobody else even fuckin' feels me, 'til it kills me I swear to God I'll be the fuckin' illest in this music There is, or there ever will be, disagree? Feel free But from now on I'm refusing to ever give up Only thing I ever gave up's using no more excuses Excuse me if my head is too big for this building And pardon me if I'm a cocky prick, but you cocks are slick Poppin' shit on how you flipped your life around, crock of shit Who you dicks tryna kid? Flip "dick," you did opposite You stayed the same 'cause "cock" backwards is still "cock," you pricks! I love it when I tell 'em shove it ‘Cause it wasn’t that long ago when Marshall sat flustered Lacked luster ‘cause he couldn’t cut mustard Muster up nothin', brain fuzzy ‘Cause he’s buzzin’, woke up from that buzzer Now you wonder why he does it how he does it Wasn’t ‘cause he had buzzards Circlin' around his head, waitin' for him to drop dead, was it? Or was it ‘cause some bitches wrote him off? Little hussy-ass scuzzes Fuck it, guess it doesn’t matter now, does it? What difference it make? What’s it take? To get it through your thick skulls that this ain’t Some bullshit; people don’t usually come back this way From a place that was dark as I was in just to get to this place Now let these words be like a switchblade to a hater’s ribcage! And let it be known from this day forward, I wanna just say Thanks, ‘cause your hate is what gave me the strength So let them Bics raise, ‘cause I came with 5'9", but I feel like I’m 6'8" [Chorus: Bruno Mars] This one's for you and me Livin' out our dreams We are right where we should be With my arms out wide, I open my eyes And now all I wanna see Is a sky full of lighters A sky full of lighters [Verse 2: Royce Da 5'9"] By the time you hear this, I’ll prolly already be outtie I advance like goin' from totin' iron to goin' and buyin’ Four or five of the homies the Iron Man Audi My daddy told me: "Slow down, boy, you're goin' to blow it!" And I ain't gotta stop the beat a minute to tell Shady I love him The same way that he did Dr. Dre on The Chronic Tell him how real he is, or how high I am Or how I would kill for him, for him to know it I cried plenty tears, my daddy got a bad back So it's only right that I write 'til he can march right Into that post office and tell 'em to hang it up Now his career's LeBron's Jersey in twenty years I stop when I'm at the very top You shitted on me on your way up, it's 'bout to be a scary drop ‘Cause what goes up must come down You goin' down on somethin' you don't wanna see, like a hairy box Every hour, happy hour now, life is wacky now Used to have to eat the cat to get the pussy Now I'm just the cat's meow, oow, outclass the count Always down for the catchweight like Pacquiao Y'all are doomed I remember when T-Pain ain't wanna work with me My car starts itself, parks itself, and auto-tunes ‘Cause now I'm in the Aston; I went from havin' My city locked up to gettin' treated like Kwame Kilpatrick And now I'm fantastic, compare it to a weed high And y'all niggas that's gossipin' like bitches On a radio and TV, see me, we fly Y'all buggin' out like Wendy Williams starin' at a beehive And how real is that? I remember signin' my first deal Now I'm the second best, I can deal with that Now Bruno can show his ass, without the MTV awards gag [Bridge: Bruno Mars] You and I know what it's like To be kicked down, forced to fight But tonight, we're all right So hold up your lights Let it shine, 'cause- [Chorus: Bruno Mars] This one's for you and me Livin' out our dreams We are right where we should be With my arms out wide, I open my eyes And now all I wanna see Is a sky full of lighters A sky full of lighters
