There's a kind of sickness .If you say Watanabe is a genius, someone will argue immediately that it's not true because he never won a World championship. But these people completely overlook the fact that he did so well both in MD and XD and he is Olympic medalist and consecutive World Championship medalist.

Lol don't worry, no one will listen to nameless strangers on the internet w/o any credibility. Sukamuljo and Tai Tzu Ying are prime examples of geniuses in their respective disciplines without any gold OLY or WC. Genius? Most definitely. GOAT status? Entirely different matter.

Watanabe is a great player and has some of the highest badminton IQ I've ever seen since Hendra Setiawan. Only 2 players who hit a shot, and the opponents just stand and stare helplessly as the shot goes where they are least prepared. Championship doesnt determine a player's game IQ, but more so consistency. Unfortunately, I don't think Higashino is as beneficial to Watanabe as Huang Yaqiong is to Zheng Siwei.

No world championship and no Olympic gold. And he competed in 2 events which gave him twice the opportunity. Strong player yes. Genius no.

@@Badmeownton Presumably, if he were a "genius" (which means someone who is highly intelligent in a specific field), it would've translated to an Olympic gold or a world championship gold, which it has not. I doubt he's losing because of his physique since he's one of the fittest players. So how can he be a "genius" if he's losing to non-geniuses. Do I really have to go through the logic with you?

lol genius doesn't mean you have to be the best... there can be multiple geniuses competing in the same tournament. It's not like it's saying he's the GOAT.

@@cw9282 Genius, as you said, relates to the concept of intelligence. However, you just went and said that Intelligence is the exact same thing as athletic performance, which makes no sense. Sure, it can play a role but it doesn't determine the whole athletic performance of a player. Please go back to primary school and learn again since your comments are the most ridiculous things that I have seen in my whole life. The correct statement would've been 'Genius yes. Strong player no.' As you said, he has no World Championships & Olympic Gold. Maybe it's good for you to at least THINK before you write down stuff on your keyboard.
