Alan Kakinami shows us the Gudgeon knot used for badminton stringing.
Alan Kakinami started stringing in 1995, and by 2000 he started to refine his skills as a stringer. By 2001, he was stringing at the US Nationals and US Opens for badminton. By 2003, he became official stringer at the Siebel Open, now known as the SAP Open, and Bank of the West Classic, the professional tennis tournaments in the Bay Area. In 2005, he was asked to string at the 2005 Badminton World Championships and in 2009 became an official stringer for the Pan American Games for badminton. Over the years AK has become synonymous with QUALITY stringing.

There are so many videos out there, with professional audio and video, but let me tell you sir, your video on knots is the best on the internet bar none. You should be proud of your work and skill. Thank you for this fantastic tutorial!

Fantastic video, I was recommended using this knot and thanks to this video now know how to use it. If someone came to you asking for 25lbs, how would you string that; 23x25lbs, 24x26lbs or 25x27lbs? Or another way? Seems to be varied stringer to stringer?

Thank you Alan, great explanation and some history! Just a note for people learning - the first loop must not go up through itself, but outside, unlike the second loop. I had a trouble with that when learning the knot and couldn't understand why it looked wrong... :-)

I learned this knot from AK himself during the All England 2012. Had a brief talk with him and he taught me this knot. Great knot. Still use it to this very day. However, I never knew the 1st loop should not go through itself. I always did it that way. Never had any problems though. I even did it with 3 loops all through eachother when I strung with a thin string like BG65UM or BGAS, as I was afraid the knot would still slip in the grommet. Next time I will try it like in this video.

@@priyank0190 Unlike AK I always tension the knot manually. When I pull the first loop tight, I use the second loop to put tension on it (the pull and arch back). Then I pull the second loop very tight. The last loop (through 1st and 2nd loops) is to finish it.

@@TheKakinami so your finishing knot at the main and the cross are the same one. Btw, I also use starting clamp but I scare when I string high tension like 27-30 lbs, the starting clamp affect to the frame.
