Super job! Love you channel. Viktor is committed to being the best. This comes in part from the Danish tradition with respect for badminton athletes and early introduction to the sport. He trains very hard and is very strong so he can do things many players cannot do, especially late in a match. Some Danish players have said they only practice two hours per day, but they mean two hours of high intensity, quality on-court work combined with a lifestyle of cross training, diet, quality sleep and persistent curiosity about the sport. Thanks for highlighting Viktor and his steps to success!

The Viktor Axelsen’s jump smash with chest out was really useful. I found myself having a more consistent and faster jump smash with that technique.

That Shot Selection analysis made such a great point. And also adds reason to why LCW would just dominate Viktor whenever they played. LCW was one of the Greatest ever that the sports has seen in net shots.

Fun fact: At a young age Viktor cursed himself being so tall wishing he was shorter, since that was the norm back then for all good badminton players, he didn't think he could become one of the best because of his height. Now people are arguing that being so tall is an advantage in many cases in badminton, but that's literally only because of Axelsen. You wouldn't hear that argument 10 years ago.

Chen Long was the first world class tall singles player. I would even argue Viktor mould his game around his court control and LCW’s attack.

Amazing video. I think the player who are closest to Viktor at the moment are LZJ and Ginting. Still cannot win against Viktor but at least can force to rubber set. Maybe if Ginting can reduce his self-errors, it will be interesting
@ChyeHeng17
@ChyeHeng17 2 жыл бұрын
Ginting is far from being consistent after all these years. He even lost to Lee Cheuk Yiu in one of the finals. Lzj has started to be consistent in recent years, and the only one got closest as of recent match.

@BradPB
@BradPB 2 жыл бұрын
@@ChyeHeng17 Totally agree, Ginting just doesn't has the stamina for his own playing style. As he gets older, it will only get worse. LZJ while having an amazing attacking game, he struggles when he has to go against players with good defense because his control game is not well developed yet. LZJ beat Viktor at the All England on Mar 2021 which was almost 1.5 years ago, since then they have met twice, LZJ lost both time. So it's not entirely accurate when people put LZJ on the same tier with Viktor, at least not right now.

Viktor is a really intelligent and disciplined athlete no doubt about that! On the part about consistency, in 2018/19 when Kento was at the top of his game, he used the same strategy against Viktor that Viktor is now using to play against him - no unforced errors, opponent has pressure to play winning shots and makes more mistakes. I remember there was a match where the score line was 21 to single digits and Kento was not smashing. If Kento restored his old form, I wonder if the score line would be closer?
@krs4046
@krs4046 Ай бұрын
Honestly, Axelsen is the best after LD-LCW era because of 2 reasons. #1 He's damn consistent. #2 The rest of the men singles player are just too trash. Trust me, those who grow up watching LD-LCW will never would've thought a India and Thailand player will made it to the Olympics semis. Players like Tommy Sugiarto or Kenichi Tago are easily Gold medal contenders if they were born in this era. No disrespect to Axelsen, he's a great player. But the only player that ever came close to LD-LCW was Momota. Unfortunately a car accident changed everything.
@leenpels7646
@leenpels7646 Ай бұрын
So because India and Thailand have improved that's bad? It's more like badminton training and coaching has improved a lot and have gotten more and more widely integrated over last 10-15 years. They are playing better than ever, faster pace, harder smashes, better nutrition. There has been a progression in the sport like there are in many other sports. Momota, among others, felt that in his come back from his accident. He actually played great initially in 2021 at Thomas cup, Denmark Open and Indonesia masters (which he won), but his badminton had been stalling compared to Ginting, LZJ, Axelsen and others who all defeated him having him figured out more or less. Saying Tommy Sugiarto and Kenichi Tago would be gold contenders today just shows how unserious you are. This looks more like a case of your butt hurting because the tall Dane is dominating.
@krs4046
@krs4046 Ай бұрын
@@leenpels7646 if the game is so much more integrated than before, then, why don’t we see other national thrive like Argentina, Brazil or even Colombo? 10-15y not enough time for them? The game has not been integrated internationally. If it has, people won’t be earning US$40,000 by winning a big tournament. Even tennis grand slam, first round knockout earn more than that . Social media and KZbin only makes learning a lot more easier but that doesn’t mean integration . i might be wrong about India. But trust me, players like sonwanho tago sugiarto will be gold contenders in todays game. They are much technical, skilful and fit. Men singles today is about who is fastest or who has the strongest smash. They easily tire out when it comes to game 3. There’s rarely any deception shot, double action or halfsmashes. You can disagree with me, but the stats wont lie. go watch yesterday‘s game and count the shots. I stand firm, viktor it’s a great player, but he’s more lucky that he was born at the right time. If the game is so much more integrated today, why no one comes close to him in todays game ? You just don’t become a great sports nation overnight because of integration. So just admit the fact that the game today is at a very low standard. Btw, momota case after his accident is due to an eye issue and mental challenge. You dont win 13 tournaments a year, get involve in a car accident, comeback after a year and realised ‘oh integration changed and improve everyone’. I agree with you that certain nations are indeed improving. But honestly majority of what you said, just don’t make sense.

Yea I’d like to see a video on that too. I remember Li Yongbo once saying that Lin Dan saw things on court that other players did not see. If you could beat a player like Lee Chong Wei almost 30 times throughout your career, you are the GOAT. They also brought in Tang Xianhu to beef up his mental game prior to the Beijing Olympics. This hiring a coach for the mental part of the game is what Japan should be doing with Momota.

If I may, I'd like more videos about placement and moves strategy. I know you did several already but I'd like a basic method to placement and goals to reach in order to stay hard to play for the opponent and easy to play for us. What to do to protect a not so good shot of ours till we make it better : smash, back-end and so on... ? Are there basic placements and moves patterns to keep in mind when playing that we could memorize? Thanks! Love. ❤

Peak Lin Dan beats everyone, period. Look at it this way. 2019 Momota would beat current Viktor. Viktor looks so good now because if you’ve removed Momota from the equation since 2016, Viktor would stand out. Momota was the real best player and Viktor was number 2. These two are by far ahead of the rest. But I think prime Lin Dan would beat 2019 Momota. So there you go.

While respecting Viktor for all his commitment and achievements, I feel really sad for Kento Momota who has been beating Viktor quite easily until 2020 Jan when he faced the fatal accident. I witnessed myself at Japan at the Japan open the semi betweek Momota and Viktor where Momota beat him quite comfortably. Momota was unbeatable at that time its very unlucky that he met with the accident, and then out of the game for a long time. His return to the game has not been the expected level, but I still hope Momota will be back to his usual form sooner

His opponents need LCW's XC net shot against those pushes to the service line, it was almost a vanity shot for LCW most of the time but its necessary against Victor if u don't want to lift.

Victor yt channel is definitely worth checking out. It’s not as detail as this wonderful channel, but it does show how he think about each shot and training.

One more important point is mental health/wellbeing. He has a mental coach or he used to have one. I think keeping calm during the rallies, lifting the spirits after a loss, and staying grounded after a major win are important aspects of an athlete's life. P.S. Excellent video, as always.

I'm kind of new to badminton scene (just playing it casually few times a month), but Axelsen really feels like a great athlete - at least what I've seen from random clips. Feels like a good guy!
