Although I like the dp into ex fireball buff in theory, I'm not sure it's implementation is good. At 3:55, it did 150 damage, which is 30 more damage than medium dp(or 20 more than hard dp) for 1 EX, which I'm not sure would be worth using most of time; however what's worse is that EX dp by itself deals 160 damage! This means that early light dp is never optimal if you can just use EX dp instead. It also juggles into super, but this patch they also buffed medium dp into super cancel's reliability, making this move almost completely useless. Maybe you can use light dp as an anti air preemptively versus characters with air mobility options(Cammy divekick, Urien different kneedrop etc.) and if it misses because they might have trouble punishing it's shorter recovery compared to the medium version, but I we can say that early light dp is going to have very niche appeal as an anti-air option at best, unless Capcom buffs late dp's damage from a pitiful 60 to something more meaningful some time later.

the new light dp ex fireball juggle gets you better oki and corner carry, not only damage. Also ex dp gives you no oki at all if it fully connects so its never optimal to aa with it unless it kills

^ That. Also Light DP will often be getting counterhits while MP dp never should, which further differentiates the damage. The lowish damage is a good observation, so I'm pinning this comment since I expect a lot of people to point it out.

Oki after juggling lpdp to ex fireball is +14/19. No follow up after ex dp, ca, mpdp or hpdp on back rise. Everything isn't just about damage.

Light DP also juggles into L.Jodan more importantly which does outdamage hard DP. Considering no late anti-air DP gives proper oki anyway I think that's a very welcome buff.

Its trading damage for corner carry and oki. EXDP would be good if theyre trying to jump out of the corner, or you just need the extra damage to close out the round. Light DP into fireball conversion carries them VERY far, and leaves you with all the time in the world to dash up and force a mixup. Its a very good utility mechanic, aside from just being fun in general

The VS2 change for wallbounce is intended for oki, which makes it a stronger option in Dhalsim/Poison matchups.

I was thinking maybe the higher launch for st. HP CC was so you could counterpoke a long limb, cancel to super, and have it combo. Even still, whiffing st. HP and VS2 in neutral sounds like it's more likely to hurt you than help you, but I guess ryu has to go a little ham in those matchups.

When I read that Denjin no longer ends VT I hadn't made the connection that this make his "chip" kill game better. It's a niche use, but a niche use is better when paired with a well rounded character rather than an oddball that struggles anytime they can't use it.

Ryu looks much more consistent now. These are very good changes imo and I think these changes are enough to get ryu into the higher end of mid tier which is honestly perfect for a character focused mainly on the basics such as ryu.

With sf6, I really do want to love the game but it's just so much more frustrating than any other fighting game ever for me. I could blame a million things for it, my main character changing a lot (I don't like chun stance), the drive system, doesn't really matter. I just don't want to play a game that makes me physically angry.

As a Ryu player, I do like these buffs, but with a gripe or 2. I prefer VS2, so the parry buff is nice-it's small but potentially life saving. I run VT1 since I'm not as big on moves that require the opponent to attack, but I guess I'll take a look at VT2 and see if it's cool enough. I do try to trigger cancel VS2, and Denjin not using my trigger is nice, so at least us VT1 guys still got some cool stuff. Side note, VS2 not being as optimal and the TC cancel being weaker than the link sucks. But VS2 still seems good everywhere else, and both of these are kind of specific anyways, so I doubt it'll change too much besides a few additional combo routes or adjustments.

It wont make Alex top tier, but he'd be mid-high for sure. He still suffers defensively, but he has a lot more tools to keep up the pressure. Stomp into -2 and not losing VS2 on knockdown, and able to cancel into VT from ex moves are extremely powerful.

@@bryanleeyf87 Alex got buffed yes, and some I would say are huge. But he's fundamentally flawed to begin with with poor oki, mixups and poor frames on a lot of attacks. One of the new buffs he got was invincibility on DP+HK which is largely useless as an anti-air because it's not usable as a reaction. I'd rather they actually just buffed dp+K so it actually starts fast enough and has a big enough hitbox to be used as an anti-air reliably, even if they had to half its damage. Everyone knows without meter (and even sometimes with), you can just bully Alex with jumps because there wasn't anything punishing enough to deter them from trying. It's not so much as Alex was nerfed or anything. He's actually much better than SF3 in terms of moves. But SFV's system doesn't really do Alex any favours, and when they globally nerfed anti-air jabs back in S3, then even further in S5, Alex was one of those who suffered the most from it. Still, as an Alex main, I'll take whatever buffs I can get, and it's certainly made V-Skill 2 really good now.

You get oki midscreen from light dp thanks to the extra float. So while juggling is cool unless you need the extra damage to kill it's probably better to just go for the oki.

It's still optimal if you do the heavy kick before vs2, right? for example on a crouching opponent -> mp, mp, cr. hp [tc], hk [tc], vs2 this is still damage optimal while also giving you good oki. both standing and crouching versions of this do 261 damage, build v-meter, and lead to oki

The lp shoryu conversion is something that should have been in this game the whole time. This simple gameplay change to sf5 kinda helps to convey why the gameplay and structure of each character was lost with the transistion from sf4 to sf5. Lets also not even get started with how Gief, Cody, Sakura, Juri, Blanka, lost all identity in sf5 too from 4. 5 removed so much essence from characters.

@@shiftyshitter348 In this case, its very true. SF5 is an awful game because it removed character individuality. Every single character just applies pressure and does the same shit. Every characters gameplan is identical. Get a knockdown and then go and hit buttons and pressure. In sf4 or sf2 you could win games by zoning, by chipping people out, (ryu, guile, sagat) by playing mid range all game (fei long, rose, rog) by instilling FEAR with a 2f command grab (gief, hugo, hakan, hawk) or by playing characters with incredible options with high risk high reward set play (seth, akuma) Fighting style doesnt exist in sf5. Every characters doing the same stuff. They just hwve different moves to do it. V trigger is a mechanic that is limited in its inherent design lol. Its a COMEBACK mechanic that works the exact same for every character. lol. Pop it, get some new abilities to be more offensive and get free ins, get new combos. Why not have a v trigger that increases health? or adds chip damage kills? or gives an invincible reversal meterless? or a v trigger that builds super gauge for free while active? or a trigger that grants free v reversals or shifts for X amount of time? v trigger does nothing unique at all and it works the same for everyone. SF4? Roses ultra generates orbs, fei long and cammy gained counters, rufus gained anti fireball tech....the Ultra mechanic had Defensive and OFFENSIVE choices. v trigger is just offensive and its basic and boring.

Here's my thing though... if you really, really hate this game... why go to videos and/or streams and complain about it? Like, seriously? What's the point? Why keep bitching about a game that is pretty much over and Capcom turned a profit on? No amount of complaints or dogging this game is going to really accomplish anything... people are still playing it. People are allowed to like this game. No matter how much you and others hate it. I had to learn that about DBFZ(a game I fucking hate with a passion) Keep playing SF2, 3rd Strike, SF4 or whichever one you love and enjoy it. SFV isn't stopping you from doing that and no amount of trashing it will get everyone that does still play this shitty game to stop and go back to whatever "good game" you feel they should be playing.
