I can’t believe Baffang hasn’t thought to create a chainring similar to the Lekkie and including it with their motors….

they have also never looked at the modern bike frames, mtb frames to be specific... nearly none of the modern frames has enough chainstay clearance to fit the huge final reduction gear case. this is true for all other diy mid drives, except cyc motors. they basically slightly modded the bbshd and bbs02, and the motors are great, if you have a good frame with enough chainstay clearance.

Cut in to the motor casing or ask mechanic to do it. But much more annoying that it doesn't come with adapters for other bottom brackets @@JoLe1991

Torque sensing is the absolute best experience when pedaling an electric bike. Great detailed video here. Looks like Bafang is finally making improvements that are much appreciated, like the torque sensor, lights, and bluetooth. Out of pure coincidence, my first electric bike that I ever owned and rode, was the torque sensing Currie IZIP Express. To this day, that bike was the most fun I have ever had on any of my electric bikes and scooters. Thanks again.

Thanks for the M635 install. It is cool they don't force the huge bafang "SMILE" battery on you. I also appreciate your honest feedback on the torque sensing vs competitors. For folks installing this, don't forget the anti motor rotation hose clamp that goes through the top ring in the motor and then around the bike frame. Yes we all wish they had a more professional way to do that.

if the motor comes loose it will not just drop down and pull up under load, but also move sideways. Pulling it up with a hose clamp does absolutely nothing against lateral movement. There is no way around tightening the nut really hard. I have installed one M435 and it is a truly awesome motor. lots of low end torque, excellent torque sensor response and highly customizable with the BESST tool. On top of all the power, it's butter smooth and super silent, as we know it from the BBS02/HD. I was told from China that Bafang discontinued the production of the M635 and M435. Is this true? would be the worst decision from Bafang. Yes, the price is higher, but it is one badass motor. We want great motors, not cheap motors

Tear it down! What does the controller connections to the motor look like now? I assume they change the 4pin JST to something else? Is the hall sensor PCB same as the HD? Any difference internally would be interesting to see 👍

Thanks for uploading this video. I'm considering buying a kit myself. But first I have to ask, how easy is it to shorten all the cables? 'Cause I absolutely hate when there are wires everywhere. Also I have to ask, what is the minimum requirements of gear, in order for it all to work? Greetings

I've installed 5 bbshds. They don't fall down if tightened properly. You just need to torque the nut enough so the bracket bites into the frame.

What do you suppose you give up by losing the CANBUS interface to the more universal battery you chose for this build which btw, I fully support and thank goodness the new M635 motor will work without a CANBUS proprietary Bafang battery. But wonder if there a programming or tuning benefit of having the CANBUS plugged into the motor? Thoughts? Thanks for your review.

Can the M635 replace the BBSHD using the wiring harness that is already on my bike? That way I could just slide out the SHD - insert the M635 - plug it in and go. Great video ----

No unfortunately. The M635 has a different wiring harness

Would love to know how often the chain drops over the course of 5 1 hour or so rides riding hard, and pedaling with some road bumps here, and there. My stock 48T chain ring was actually really fast, but it usually dropped 1 or more times during a ride which is why I got the Lekkie, and i haven't dropped even once since If that amount is significantly less with this chain ring, even if it's not as good as a Lekkie, I think that is a very respectable upgrade that takes down initial investment for the motor, and is something worth stating if it is the case! Is it the case :D ?
@goldenmotorNA7 ай бұрын
Yes the Lekkie solves the problem of the chain drops. But you are right the new stock chainring is better than stock BBSHD. Havnt tried if for long rides yet. Theoretically it should be good because of the narrow wide tooth pattern

Can you run a 60 volt battery with it
@raylo40746 ай бұрын
I have been riding CYC and TSDZ2 waiting for Bafang to make a mid drive with torque sensor. But the speed here seems low, maybe an issue with space to run out and gearing? It sounded like you said you couldn't shift onto the 12t (or 11t) cog, so maybe that was the issue. My CYC Photon will hit 38 MPH on throttle (can't do that for very long as it will overheat) and my X1 Gen 2 will easily top 40MPH. Both on 52 V batteries. I expected these BBSHDish motors to be faster, certainly faster than 26MPH?

The Bafang speed sensor is a POS. I got a magnet for a Trek / Bosch that uses 2 of the brake rotor mounting screws and a small reed switch. Made a mount for the switch and have not broke off a speed sensor yet. If you ride on infrequently maintained single tracks dirt roads etc you'll break off the Bafang speed sensor in a minute

There are rare reports that open source firmware makes the BBSHD throttle response smoother. Stock firmware with startup current set to 1% always resulted in the freehub pawls making snapping sound.

The issue I ran into trying to fit my old Tongshen to my new Ozark trail Ridge was that the chain stays got in the way of the motor fitting all the way into the BB.. Does this have the same fitment requirements as the BBSHD (because I tried a fitment guide for that motor and it looked like it was also a no-go)or is that drive side gear housing just a bit smaller?

I don't see the point of torque sensing on an HD equivalent motor...at least for a lightweight hardtail bike. The folks who love the HD don't seem to be the best audience for rider input focus. The lower output torque sensing motor makes more sense to me. BBS02 still has a ton of power compared to expensive integrated mid drive bikes. The M635 comes at a higher price than the HD.

Just one question. You said it was basically an upgrade of the BBSHD. My understanding is the BBS02 uses the stock mount like the one shown and the BBSHD uses a much different custom mount which is built into the frame and cannot be retrofitted. Can someone in the know please comment on this. Thanks.
@goldenmotorNA7 ай бұрын
I’m not sure about your question. But the BBSHD and BBS02 mounts are pretty similar

@@goldenmotorNA I have the Bafang Ultra which requires a custom frame. I thought the only difference between it and the BBSHD was the steel cog. So it is a significant difference in the mount as well. Thanks for answering. Be interesting so see your review on the Ultra some day, I really like it. Rock on.

THEN @6:04 min. the amateur runs into the next problem: "the bottom bracket" TRUST ME, you don't have the "standard bracket removal tool" @6:58 min. QUESTION: is there only ONE diameter bottom bracket on bikes? That is hard to believe Sooo, from what I'm seeing here, I would HIGHLY recommend spending the money to have a professional installer do the job for you.
