Hi Craig, long time subscriber, you helped me back when i used to homebrew and inspired me to give all grain a crack. Funnily enough I'm now 3.5 years sober due to me not being able to control the amount i drank so i can only assume the gods of fate happened to steer me through my subscribed channel list where i saw good old Craigtube and saw your question about Doctors and consumption at the end of this video. I can tell you my father in law is currently in end stage liver disease, from what started as his doctor saying he had bad liver enzyme numbers, to fatty liver disease and now cirrhosis, the majority of this has rapidly onset in the last 2 years, barely into his 60s he has at best 6 months without a transplant. I always thought i couldnt live without a refreshing beer but boy am i glad i gave it away when i did, seeing this man deteriorate in just a few years has opened my eyes to the dangers. Stay healthy Craig, listen to your Doctors advice.

M8...I am 51 this yr and I Drink 2 ltrs of homebrew a night....between 5 and 6%...light beers. Had blood tests etc done 6mths ago as I do every 6mths and the doctor said whatever you are doing keep doing as you are in top form...even after I told him about beer..bacon and eggs...etc, etc. Must admit my job keeps me fit but I have noticed that my six-pack is slowly fading ( as has my wife...lol ). In short...life is short and I'm of the opinion as long as what I do does not impact upon my mental/ physical health and my loved ones at this point...will keep being groovy and enjoying this GROOVY game called life...17 from NZ. Groovy : )

love the video Craig, good to see you back posting brewing videos, with regards to the beer belly, I went on the Keto diet this year, I am the same age as you, the doctor mentioned to me recently at a check up on how healthy I am for my age, i put it down to the diet, lost the beer belly but was still drinking more than what your doctor allows you to drink, every body I know that went on the diet feel 20 years younger.

Craig - I so identify with your setiments - I enjoy fall (autumn in England) too and I've just spent a nice couple of hours early Saturday evening with a freind sat in our garage (my brewery tap) drinking home brew beers and a couple of single malt whiskys and good music. Really good - I'm with you and what you say...keep up the good work :)

Great update as usual Craig, I didn't get the talk to Billy thing, perhaps due to being on a different continent (or planet 🤣). It's great the way you apologise and then say I'm not apologising 🤣. As for a beer belly I've had several, it just depends on how much exercise I do, I've got one (or two) again as I was just getting back out on the bike regularly last year when I badly sprained my ankle in a cycling related incident and it is still giving me a lot of gip. Doing a lot more walking again though as the older (bigger - Wayward) dog in the icon photo passed away at the beginning of last year and we ended up getting two (long explanation to that one) younger rescue dogs just before Christmas so the team walks have increased. I don't go to the doctors as I haven't found one that's doing it for real, just those that are in a practice for the main event 😲 🤣. Stay safe and well, ICAN, cheers, Schnuz.

I've been told to "reduce how much I drink" but it's not that easy. It's part of my lifestyle, to go into the garden with a beer, or relax with a book & some wine. Perhaps it will cause ill effects later on, but so will a great many things. Stay awesome!

Hi Craig, I visited Canada back in the late 1980's onboard HMS Cumberland, I was in the British Royal Navy at the time. Anyway, I soon got to drinking a Toronto made real ale called 'Rebellion'. Do they still make this beer? I'll have to figure out how to send you some beer from England. Our local micro brewery is 'Byatt's Brewery' in Coventry, West Midlands. Stay safe and healthy mate.
@mittelfruh3 жыл бұрын
Sadly, Rebellion is but ancient history. The brewery (Upper Canada) was bought out by I believe Labatts in the early 90s. They only kept a core few styles, which of course they adulterated for the masses. Cheerz

Another great episode Craig, as for you not being a beer reviewer, I'd much rather get the low down from a genuine guy just like us, I can't be doing with pretensions gobshites going on about " Hints of early morning due by a waterfall" its beer, it tastes good or it doesn't, and by you giving your opinion helps a lot. I bought st Peter's Ale after your tasting video, and it's exactly as you said. So, keep her lit as we say here in Ireland.

I'm all too familiar with this situation Craig. Back in 2016 my liver numbers were sky high, I was sent to a liver specialist. He told me I could never drink again, he said my genetics just won't allow me to handle it. It made me so mad, so mad that I made it my life goal to get healthy so I could brew and drink beer again. In fact I remember watching your channel and being so jealous that you could enjoy something that I wasn't allowed to. It's ironic that you're now having this issue. I ended up taking up bicycling and lost over 80 lbs, I was able to get all blood work back to normal and resume brewing and having beer. Unfortunately, with my addictive personality I abused it (and other forms of alcohol). Now I'm back in the same boat, but much worse. I ended up with alcohol induced pancreatitis, which put me in the hospital. It will be a very long time now before I'm able to enjoy beer again, if ever. Sadly, I was in the planning stages of opening a brewery with my fellow brewers, and that obviously will not be happening now. I've been exploring non-alcoholic beers and I have found they are a Godsend. Some are actually pretty good. I'm looking into home brewing some NA as well. I just love the taste of beer and it is a part of my life, whether or not that's a good thing. On the plus side I feel much healthier and clearer headed. My goal is to lose weight, and get healthy and hopefully I can resume brewing and drinking in a responsible way, but if I can't handle it, I'll have to give it up, which is so very depressing. My advice is, It's better to have to cut back a bit than be forced to quit entirely. Luckily for us, the liver repairs itself... as long as we don't take it too far.
@Leviathan19833 жыл бұрын
I implore you to give the book "This Naked Mind" a read, digital version is just a few bucks on Amazon, everything will make sense. I tried so many times to drink responsibly (as if the choice were actually mine) I wish you luck and good health pal.

You should offset your beer consumption with cannabis, I find sipping on a beer and alternating with cannabis enhances the beer buzz and reduces my alcohol consumption which my liver appreciates...my numbers are quite good and I am in my sixties, unfortunately there's nothing I can do about that.

I haven't crossed the yellow liver just yet, but I have an ulcer that keeps popping up coz I have to not drink any alcohol for quite some time until the ulcer completely clears and the mucus membrane is repaired, I will persevere though, my doctor did bollock me for still drinking with the ulcer at its' peak, my beer belly isn't actually from beer, it's just flab, because when I was a teenager, I went boxing for a while, as well as playing football a lot, but in the boxing club, I was doing sit ups on an incline bench, with the trainer dropping a medicine ball on my tummy while doing the sit-ups, so I was getting ripped to be a boxer, but sadly, a pervert dude who worked at the club did something offensive to me while nobody else was there, so I left the club, and never continued with the training, so my tummy turned to flab, and I've been a fat bastard ever since.
