There haven't been a real music industry since like 2008. What is rap in 2024? Autotune dudes crying on songs. Over masculine female rappers

Radio is not accessible to most artists financially, so it doesn't matter what the percentage is. They need that loan from the label to cover everything Muni long mentioned. None of these young dudes have a million dollars sitting around to go on that campaign like her or killer Mike

Look around, fellas, don't nobody care about no music. Music is free and as I've been saying for years, "Anything that you give away for free will come back around and fuck you up." In Hip-Hop, it's a free-for-all. "Artists" are making the same, lil' tired ass, 2 minute microwave records and they catch a lil' buzz for a few weeks and then it's on to the next one. That burnout is a real thing. It simply does not make sense to invest marketing and promo dollars into a product that's only gon last for a few weeks. Music ain't made to last for two weeks. We're in a microwave society, fellas and the remaining labels are getting smarter. Remember that tricky lil' layoff period during the mid 2000's? That's gon happen again and it's only gon get worse because it's getting down to the wire and there's really nothing left to consolidate. It's difficult because the older artists are too washed up for mainstream consumers, but the newer artists _cain't_ sell records all like that. Where do you find a happy medium, fellas? Millions of followers (which includes bots) all across social media, but artists are only moving 10K units. What' going on w/ that? Look at the current state of Hip-Hop. As seasoned and decorated as LL Cool J is, folks would rather discuss Puffy & Co. misfortunes vs. his new LP. Why is that? Hell, Puffy & Co. released an LP last year and nobody ended up listening to it. In fact, he ended up having to save face and basically move his own units. He's in the news and folks are having a field day. We're so far removed from music that it's legit becoming an afterthought. Folks my age (38 & older) are more interested in podcasts. I called that years ago as well. It's easy-breezy and far more entertaining than our favorite '90s artists releasing new LPs. I'm sorry, but that's just the truth. We're listening to the music that we grew up on. These kids today have they own thing goin' on. Music done lost its shine and value. What's the last Nasir LP that you truly care about? His last two LPs came & went faster than you can say abracadabra. They do not have any of these problems in country music. Target, Walmart, etcetera still has physical country music available for purchase. Miranda Lambert, etcetera. Only physical Hip-Hop music that's available for purchase are Eminem and Megan. K-Pop has a its own lil' section/wall. K-Pop does not come across any of these problems. Fans anticipate new music releases in those genres and enthusiastically go out and purchase the physical copies. Hip-Hop is just a some lil' trash can ass genre that you can make a quick buck in and discard like a smelly diaper.

Most hip-hop music fans are fickle af, fad-chasers, and aspiring rappers and producers. Why tf would they support Hip Hop artists when they are trying to be in their shoes???? Most of Eminem (and Drake) fans are not Hip-Hop music fans. Which is why their music, merch, and concerts remain financially lucrative. Also, you asked about the last Nasir album that anyone truly cared about????? It Was Written is his last cohesive album. The rest of that bs after that were lackluster trash. Yep. Almost 30 years of bs Nas albums. not sure why you mentioned that overrated weak af rapper

When you realize hip hop started as “Free”. Everything you said is only if you are partaken in the major label route. Music is Music. People still do it for the love and people will always listen to good music. The best thing to ever happen to hip hop is that it’s about to finally start all over. If you think Hip Hop is just “some lil trash can genre”. Then you have no clue wtf hip hop is in the first place.

All labels are gonna do is find ways to have a low overhead cause the music will always be here, talent aint hard to find anymore. Making them a brand with a sound is the hard work I would do it the old hip hop way. Sign an artist for a single, if it does good, then build up a following through promo tours with colleges, then worry about full length work. After a few songs do something then you start promoting other products that align with their image, THEN you release the album, and merch

That was Ghost's point. If you're a recording artist first, you would think you'd want your career to thrive off appreciation for your music. If you want that, you have to make good music for the people who appreciate music as art before they start spending money on your other endeavors. If you come out as an artist, but your music is mid and not gaining motion, but you're funny, so you also start a podcast and that blows up; The audience that discovered you through the podcast isn't necessarily gonna be into your music, maybe some. But he's right, the consumers who really care about music, want good music first from these artists. The younger generation might be more intrigued by these other things, but it's just as well, most of them don't know a good record from their asshole.

They really are and artist on majors still have to do a lot of their own work anyway they just have to split it with way more people and get told what they can and cannot do. If you’re a newer artist with no leverage there’s no reason to sign to a major.

Artist and youtubers also have to look at themselves as a mini corporation and business. A business sells a product or service but they also need marketing, a sales department, HR department, employees, managers and someone keeping track of finances. Labels used to handle all that but these days its way more accessible to get a team to do that for yourself

Country music went stock years ago I remember before I developed my internet radio apps I was looking into different ways people invest in music I'm not one at all for country music.. But it was interesting to me how they now have it as investors buying their catalogs .. I guess hiphop/rap will go into stock exchange too....never thought I'd see the day.. Things will change with a.i music real music and it'll involve the stock exchange...

Here are logical fallacies found in the video transcript: 1. **Hasty Generalization**: - **Example**: "Streaming isn't profitable for artists." - The claim is based on limited evidence (e.g., Snoop Dogg's low earnings from streaming) and overlooks the wide variety of artist experiences. Many independent artists earn significant income from streaming platforms by keeping control of their rights. Assuming streaming is unprofitable for all artists based on a few examples is an overgeneralization. 2. **False Cause (Post Hoc)**: - **Example**: "Labels are moving away from radio, and this shift is why artists aren’t making money." - The shift away from radio might coincide with a rise in streaming, but it doesn’t mean this shift is the cause of artists earning less. Many factors influence artist revenue, including contracts, the rise of independent distribution, and changes in music consumption habits. The fallacy assumes a direct cause-effect relationship without proving it. 3. **Appeal to Fear**: - **Example**: "If artists don't diversify (influence, merch, etc.), they’ll be left with nothing and make no money." - The argument stokes fear by suggesting that if artists don’t follow the trend of diversification, they will fail completely. While diversification can help, many artists still succeed through traditional music-focused careers. This tactic relies on the fear of failure to make the point, without solid evidence that such a drastic outcome is inevitable. 4. **Slippery Slope**: - **Example**: "Record labels are like hedge funds; they can tank an artist's career, pull support, and leave them with nothing." - This argument suggests that if labels are treated like hedge funds, it will inevitably lead to widespread harm for artists. However, there’s no concrete proof that labels would universally behave this way. The claim exaggerates the potential impact of a business model shift. 5. **Straw Man**: - **Example**: "Artists today can't just be musicians; they have to be influencers, sell merch, and more." - This misrepresents the position that artists should consider diversifying their revenue streams by implying that it’s the only option. In reality, diversification is one strategy among many, and plenty of successful artists focus primarily on music, touring, and traditional promotional channels. 6. **Appeal to Authority**: - **Example**: "Snoop Dogg only made $43,000 from a billion streams, so streaming must not work." - Using Snoop Dogg’s experience as definitive proof is an appeal to authority. Snoop's experience is not representative of all artists, and drawing broad conclusions from a single case ignores the complexities of the music business and how different artists operate. 7. **False Dilemma (Either/Or Fallacy)**: - **Example**: "You can either make money from radio or from streaming, but streaming will never make you money." - This sets up a false choice between radio and streaming, as if no other options exist. In reality, artists can generate income from multiple streams, including live performances, direct fan sales, licensing, and brand deals. By pointing out these fallacies, it's clear that the arguments in the video may lack nuance, rely on scare tactics, and overgeneralize based on limited evidence.
