Every year in my humid climate, I fight with disease on my grape vines. Luckily they are all highly mildew resistant, but black rot is a plague that has affected my grape vines almost every year I've had them. Bagging is a great solution. See how.

Hi this is EXACTLY what happened to me this year. I FINALLY had about 12 clusters and one day I looked and ALL OF THEM succumbed to them. Hopefully I will catch them next year. THANK YOU THANK YOU

Im confused, if youve never had it and your grapes have great resistance, why bag them?

Glad I saw this. I’ve been looking for ideas to protect some fruit (watermelons and cantaloupes) while they’re small.

The Vietnamese farmers in Vietnam wrap them in cheap clear plastic bags with small slit cuts in the bottom corner to allow water/moisture to drip out. They wrap all kinds of fruits like guavas, grapefruits, oranges that are susceptible to boring insect and disease.

Great idea . I have cut down my Ruby seedless grape vine down to ground 3 times and treated with copper fungicide but disease still shows up and ruins grapes.

A lot of work in grapes...from thinning clusters to shoots to bagging them. I keep mine in the greenhouse.

we have a beautiful lush grapevine and every year we get dozens of little grapes but they never grow to full size! This year they grew the most its ever grown before, but then they became really dry and just fell off :(

My figs are fine. The eggs on our maple trees have not hatched yet, here in the Lehigh Valley.

🙏💚 Thank you so much for this. I'm going to transplant my diseased arbor grapes to my Permaculture spot in the back garden. Every single bunch has black rot... but I can't bring myself to take them from the song birds who clearly don't mind. Then I'm going to replace with a seedless disease resistant variety that grows well in my little corner of Virginia swamp. Really appreciate the tutorial... I'll do better next time. (Still... 10 year old vines 😪)

You know.. as disease resistant as these varieties are, they aren't resistant to black rot. I don't know of a European table grape that can withstand that disease.

@@RossRaddi hmmmm.... can you suggest a different plant? The grape arbor serves as cover over a 20' x 32' outdoor kitchen. It makes the shade provided by the leaves kind of important. I'm in a 7b in a swampy area of southern Virginia. I suppose I could plant an annual... no reason it would need to be a permanent crop... or edible for that matter. Maybe an arctic kiwi? I don't know that they would tolerate the 2 to 3 weeks of 100° weather we get in August or the wet feet. I'm on the hunt!

Interesting. I’ve always thought that airflow and sunlight are mandatory for healthy sweet grapes. Yet covering them with a bag keeps them dark with zero air flow. I’m going to do an experiment. Do some with wax paper bags others with the large organzas I used last year.

Do you have black rot? With black rot I get no grapes. Giving them as much air flow and sunlight that I can, I still get nothing. Bagging or spraying is the only way in my location. If you don't have black rot, organza bags work well as a form of protection from critters.

Ross Raddi I’ve had some. But I started following a spray schedule from Purdue university that works pretty well. I just was surprised that grapes can form in the dark with no airflow whatsoever.
