Very useful video! I understand why you didn't go into edge finishing/lining but that's the real puzzle when making zipper bags imo. A lined tote I can get my head around no problem, but as soon as gussets come in to play, it becomes a real brain buster to get every edge neat. Looking forward to the rest of the series!

Double zipper gusset fanny packs are a nightmare to sew. I'm dying to get a look at how big OEMs like First Spear do it.

Great idea for a series! With a few months of learning and experience under my belt, I much prefer to be shown concisely presented concepts, tips and overviews, rather than laboriously long A to Z construction videos. The latter were helpful to get started, but in my opinion they're not always good for expanding one's skills (and imagination).

whats a zipper slider? Im new to this. having some successes so far but when I sew in my zippers I find sometimes they act very sticky. Thoughts?
@thejasonofalltradesАй бұрын
Hi! By "slider" I am referring to the component that slides along the zipper teeth to open and close the zipper. If your zippers are sticky feeling after sewing (assuming they ran smoothly before sewing), you might be sewing too close to the teeth, which could cause the slider to rub against the seam, creating drag on it. That's my first guess, anyway. I hope that helps, thanks for watching!

Do you have tips for zippers, basic style/type/size? Currently I just use zippers I've harvested from other things and I keep the offcuts, but I now have more zipper length then runners. I Was thinking of buying a zipper on a role and then just buying a bunch of runners, but I couldn't fine good info on what would be good for what? Seems like a good follow up to this video. Keep up the good work!

Hi! The zipper I use by far the most is YKK continuous coil in size #8. (The size is the width in millimeters of the zipper "coil" or "teeth." #8 is big enough to work great for backpacks, duffels, etc., but still works fine in smaller pouches. If you sew a lot of ultralight gear, #3 or #5 might be better choices. Also, if you want to reverse the zipper so the smooth side is out, you just need to buy some inverted coil sliders, the zipper is exactly the same. (Inverted sliders are often used on water-resistant zipper like Aquaguard.) You can shop for continuous coil zipper by the yard at most online fabric retailers, look under the heading of "narrow goods" if it isn't more obvious than that. I hope that helps, thanks for the question, and thanks for watching!
