This is pretty much one of the only videos on KZbin where you have a kung fu guy that doesn't transform into a kickboxer during sparring. Kudos.

Right but for me, using kung fu in a fight, I'm not going to do some sort of fancy hand stuff if most of that in Shaolin atleast is used within the context of wrestling and grappling, So the reason I'll spar a boxer with a boxing guard is because you have that same guard in Shaolin, real kung fu is going to look like kickboxing at some point because the fancier forms are not meant for stances, they're meant for grappling

It's technically one of the more peaceful kung fu styles like tai chi, not that real tai chi and real Bagua fighters fight in a completely peaceful way, but they are associated more closely with Buddhism and Taoism, and when I mean real tai chi and Bagua I'm not talking about the guy who does forms all day and think it's fighting

I watched this video to help write one of my character's fighting styles, and I learned a lot. He's actually a boxer who turned to mix martial arts by adding Bagua into his technique. I feel more confident writing this character's interactions in fights now.

If done correctly, Bagua really is really practical. Not only will you not get hit, but you will be able to bring the opponent off balance, remove his center of gravity and easily land a hit where it matters (like solar plexus, temples, throat or something). I am currently learning Bagua from a Shifu that has had 2 groups of disciples and his son. Both have won multiple national Bagua championships in China. Training with them has really taught me that Bagua is not just for show, it really is good for combat. They frequently show me how they are able to divert one’s center of gravity, how to use the body’s tension between the feet to get strength from the ground, transferred to the legs, hips, shoulders, and over the arms to the hands, where suddenly there is so much force. When I have my arms on theirs in the position in which you prepare to fight, they can literally sweep me off my feet without really moving much. It’s really impressive

@@alinao.4720 Bro even tai chi works, Yes as much as people make fun of how it's slow and for elderly people in the parks, first off it's been taught wrong for years, Mainly because it was first created by a rich family, and each member practiced a different styles of tai chi, tai chi Chuen Which I think can be the more aggressive style, and doing all the fancy hand waving stuff in the air, is practiced wrong, those are wrestling moves in the context of strikes being thrown, you're supposed to practice with a person and know what those moves are for, Wing Chun on the other hand is not a complete martial art, it is a sub style of the Shaolin, so why do so many wing Chun practitioners fail? Because they're training it wrong! You need to train in Shaolin principles with the context of the modern world strikes, and then practice your wing Chun in the clench and in close quarters, your wing Chun does not exist within jab range, Shaolin exists within jab range and with wrestling techniques, so if the context is just boxing or kickboxing, nobody's going to even notice your doing kung fu oddly enough but the answer is yes these older forms of fighting do work

What I like about the bagua practitioner is his understanding of his art, he knows how to use it and thinks for himself. interestingly enough most kung fu styles have only one unarmed form and multiple weapons forms, the weapons forms have unarmed applications and the unarmed hands form has typically split 50/50 one striking and wrestling. understanding is extremely important to kung fu and any other fighting style or system, to which this guy does flawlessly.

@warfox777
@warfox777 5 жыл бұрын
We do have a lot of finger strengthening exercises, but the real strength comes from just practicing the techniques in the air. Also it's important to really understand where your fingers are as you parry the attack. The palm or wrist is used to stop the attack and the fingers are like tentacles that control position. Don't lead with fingers.

Move to the blind side of your opponent. That's the whole idea of the bagua footwork, i.e., to circle to the blind side of your opponent and keep attacking from the blind side if possible. You should watch the front leg of your opponent. A boxer ALWAYs throws a straight punch from the side of the front leg first! Divert that straight punch by your front arm. If your opponent has a right front leg, he will do a right straight punch. You should divert his straight punch using your right arm. To do this, step forward (slightly sideward) to the blind side of your opponent using your left leg. Like in wing chun, you should be able to use both of your arms EQUALLY well and your stance and hand postures should change according to the stance of your opponent. My 2 cents.

@ No I'm sorry. I mean you can touch each other but even if you tried to use power the strike wouldn't be powerful because the timing is right but the distance is wrong. I have studied both arts so I'm familiar with how each art works. It's more informative than critical . It's something I see a lot and if you check out arts where they make contact and you'll see what I'm talking about. You don't have to strike but positioning and timing are critical aspects even if your sparring. In the art I studied we neutralized the attack before we moved in so it's slightly different than what you guys are doing.

@Madara Uchiha provide evidence? For example the ones who say this that actually step up have been flattened in China for the past year. The problem is they never step up because they know how fake they are. Also bro can't box and he's supposed to be a coach? I know, he's not but the desc. is misleading. Don't find someone at the gym, find someone from a boxing studio and show why bagua beats real boxing if it can.

Used it dozens of times in real fights. Find a good teacher and anything works. But it's not for the simple minded. If you like what you have, stick with it.

Other than the eyejab, none of the bagua shots at the power to stun the boxer enough to reduce the power of the boxer's punches.
