Whenever you shut down the engine on a reciprocating engine, you pull the mixture control aft and WAIT until the prop stops, THEN and only then do you turn the magneto switch to off. The purpose is to starve the engine of all gas.

Mixture works just fine. Its at 4000 feet above sea level and I always lean for Rich Best Power. For this airplane its always mixture first then master and ignition off. Last thing i want is a flooded carburetor before the engine quits hehe.

It can take on commercial flights such as turboprop ops. The only issue with Baguio is the weather conditions making the airport not quite reliable for maintaining commercial ops year round. Hopefully the PAL Q400 ops will prove otherwise and be successful.

While waiting, i can give you a rough summary without the ballpark figure I bought my airplane ready to fly from a reseller/importer for the cost of a typical 7 seat SUV. I was lucky at the time but lately during the pandemic, airplane prices actually went up especially for a cessna 152 Fixed expenses are divided into 3 main parts (annual maintenance, insurance, hangarage) Variable costs are mainly 2 parts (fuel and parts/unscheduled maintenance) Long term expenses that must be budgeted (engine overhaul) How to offset cost of ownership? Lease back to an air operator or school Lease to flying club members …. The option i chose

Hello pilot RPC 9012. Im just a fan of flying trying hard to learn. I searched that RPC9012 is a Cessna 152 right? Just comparing what they use here in Ontario, Canada for training is Cessna 172. If ever I would go training there in Pinas, is Cessna 172 available? Thanks.
@750cruzerpilot2 жыл бұрын
Hi Jun yes, the Philippines pretty much ate up the world’s Cessna 152 and older 172 stockpile. Most of the training aircraft here are 152s and 172s.i learned to fly in Brampton Flight Center in Ontario. I lived in Canada for 13 years before deciding to immigrate back here for an airline gig. Learning to fly is cheaper in Canada and you learn more than what you will ever get from here. Id study there and as a career option for aviation option to fly here in Philippines or the world for that matter. Think global.

@@750cruzerpilot Brampton pala. My daughter took me to one of the flight schools in Markham north of Hwy 7, back some 18 yrs ago, and did my first ride along with a student pilot, our family friend, (he had finished the hours required without the instructor at that time), and that's how I got very interested but didn't have time to apply. You said cheaper than in Pinas, but I thought if I can do training in U.S., will be much better in terms of what you will get from what you paid for, or better depending on your capabilities & passion. That is if I can. As per career option, maybe if you will, we can chat as to what level you want to reach or achieve? BTW your landing in Baguio is inspiring, as far as I know.

@@Kiks-Wisdom-sotto depends what school in US. So long as maybe if its a flight college then maybe yes better as there is pilot shortage there now. If you will fly for leisure, anywhere would do. Yes cheaper there as parts, gasoline and airplanes dont need to be imported, and the industry is bigger so everything from maintenance to insurance is cheaper there than here. Hangarage not really sure.
@Kiks-Wisdom-sotto2 жыл бұрын
@@750cruzerpilot you brought up a very interesting subject, at least for me. (1) yes, shortage of pilot, for commercial planes. For private pilots, U.S. will never run out of them, since they were pioneers of flying. Many farmers there have their own single engine planes. (2) In Canada except B.C., it is very rare to have a private garage storage for their small plane because of winter weather, so Canadians settle for indoor Airport hangar which is very very expensive. In Tropical U.S. states like Florida, California, Texas, so many things going on there. (a) Barn parking in their farm (b) SHARED HANGARS or Gang Hangars (multiple planes in one indoor storage) (c) certain small airports (d) Here's the most fascinating, Cameron AIRPARK Estates, close to Sacramento, California. There are more than 600 residential AIRPARKS in U.S.. Every houses has their own small plane outdoor/indoor plane parking. The neighborhoods are super huge. Here it is: kzbin.info/www/bejne/j6aYqH-Bp96pY8k..... Later we talk about jurisdiction and controlling the air traffic.

@750cruzerpilot2 жыл бұрын
Yup makes sense. There was a side objective for me on this flight which is to see what the lowest slope one could approach should say a large turboprop operate at Loakan with the operating constraints they have in terms of stabilization. (i am also a Captain and management guy for a local airline here) There is also another thinking in terms of management of risk and I have seen pilots who botch the approach into runway 09 for being too steep and too close and ending up doing a go around which increases your risk more so than just making a normal pattern and keeping the approach stabilized. (Not to mention the rush hour traffic you caused when they closed the road crossing at the Loakan runway) Also, doing the base to final while in a slip has its own risk particularly with low time pilots and during gusty wind conditions that increases likelihood of a stall spin accident not to mention that it would be uncomfortable for the passengers. You already took the risk associated to mountain flying the moment you entered the area of terrain, the best you could do is try to keep things stabilized while being efficient to avoid an unecessary go around or be in a situation that requires exerting additional skill sets such as entering into a forward slip (which not all aircraft are rated to do) But I do agree extending the pattern has its own risks that needs to be balanced with the advantages. It really depends on your own level of Threat and Error Management and for me, coming in close and steep does not outweigh the margins of simply just doing a normal pattern. Shooting the approach in Loakan is no different than say shooting an approach in An urban airport or an airport in the middle of a forrest on relatively flat terrain where there are no good options to land if your engine fails. If anything, given the wind patterns in Baguio, all the more reason to enjoy the leeway of a normal pattern and fly a stabilized normal approach. But thats just me and the situation would depend from airport to airport based on threats and mitigations you have considered. But I do see where you are going and its always been the popular method taught here to do a combat approach into Baguio. Experience taught me otherwise. While this debate will linger between pilots, I would feel safe with a pilot who considered the threats and came up with either mitigation than be with a pilot who did not even considered the “why” and either did the combat approach because someone told him to do it that way or do a normal pattern oblivious to the external threats. Both would be attributed to lack of experience or inability to come up with a choice based on critical thinking.
