I have been running solo on my boat for everything out of NJ. Granted I'm only in a 16ft starcraft but I've now successfully released 6 300 plus pound bluefins, 2 makos (1 around 150 and the other about 300) I can't count how many threshers or blacktips. I trailered down to Palm Beach a month ago and was close to releasing my 1st solo billfish. Im going back in March and wanna target some wahoo. I've caught about 10 off NJ but not on my boat. Last Aug I got into a school of about 20 20 to 30 lb mahi about a half mile inshore of the Atlantic city ridge. You wouldn't believe the bullshit I got for that from the editor of Fisherman Magazine NJ. Idk why everyone talks shit. Sure it's insane that I run a 1967 16ft starcraft 40 miles off NJ but when anyone gets into action like that up north you'd think they'd report about it. Instead I received thousands of hate messages. There wasn't one that asked what I was using. Just im a moron. Well, who's the moron? While they ran 80 miles and got skunked and spent 1500 on gas I used 11 gallons. This summer I'm going to be trying kite fishing up here. Nobody does it EVER!!!!!! I did it 1x last year and killed school bluefins so now I'm going to get comfy out on the artificial reef and send out the kite and slay as everyone else plays with undersized fluke and sea bass

Black Bart for the win! I have fished Black Bart lures for years and even worked in the shop making the lures for a summer job, which was definitely the greatest learning experience of my life in fishing. Jack at B.B. tests all Black Bart lures in San Salvador, Bahamas, especially all of their wahoo tackle, most recently their metal head pro jets. After learning so much from Jack, in the Bahamas I run a 3 line spread with 130 chair rods and tiagra 130s, which seems overkill but I spool them with 100lb momoi hi vis mono, which actually breaks at 150lbs so I get the full benefit of the 130s but with more line capacity. That I learned from my neighbor fishing on his Hines Farley double dog. On the shotgun, an ilander jr on 24oz lead, longer corner, San sal candy on 32oz lead and short corner crooked island candy on 48oz lead all with 25ft 300lb shock leader. But of course I’ll mix the spread up all the time.
