Unfortunately, the land development (for housing facilities) in Pakistan is not possible without paying bribery. There can be a lot of offshoots out of it. Same is the scenario in BTK. And not just this, but each private housing society in Pakistan is bound to follow the same (illegal) strategy to sustain in their business. Obviously, it is not possible without gaining the support and permissions from various government departments as well as the judicial fora. So, is it possible to clean all the government departments and judicial sectors from this menace of corruption? If so, then yes, we can move forward to enjoy some legal and fair housing societies here. If no, then simply NOT. Now, what to do? Let the villages be villages for good? Or can the government departments be made competent enough to quickly develop the villages (rural areas) into modern housing societies with the capacity to run it successfully for years and years? What can be the pragmatic solution?

As per Atif Mian a famous Princeton Professor, the uncontrolled growth of the real estate sector in Pakistan is eating way the entire economy and must be checked for the allocation fo resources to other productive sectors of the economy such as manufacturing, trading, exports, agriculture, etc.

This corruption goes back to Ayub Khan era. According to Commissioner of Karachi Roedad Khan has said during a TV interview that Ayub Khan wanted a large plot in Sadar area Karachi free. The plot was a designated as public building. Mr. Roedad Khan to so then he got something also.( this can be verified. Roedad Saheb is well and alive today.) Ayub Khan’s such request was denied before by General Gracey CNC of Pakistan )

Bahria town is a great housing project, constructed on useless barren land. Govt has failed providing people of karachi a decent housing . Bahria town did that. You should also investigate the occupation of several billion dollars, thousands acres of land occupied by armed forces on main business hub of shahra e faisal. Almost most of land across shahrah e faisal is occupied by them

⭐ People here blaming BTK need to understand the project was on progress but the judiciary ( or through judiciary) the project was implicated in litigation and cases. BTK took approval and paid for the land but in later years when Raheel sharif became chief project started to face trouble and Mr. Zardari also need to settle abroad during that time. BTK is simply a case of witch hunting as no good project can be developed or is not allowed to be developed in Karachi.

This is simply a witch hunt. 60% of Karachi is not liveable or even affordable for general public. Here we have someone who is trying to build something which is affordable for ordinary people with some family protection and in the process creating hundreds and thousands of jobs. I do understand where dawn is coming from and trying to make it up look like a principal stance but we in Pakistan, especially in Karachi are past this stage. The case should not be seen as something based on strict moral principals instead through utilitarian approach. I do appreciate the bravery and courage that has been shown in this piece though for taking on the biggest land developer in Pakistan. In fact, what we have been recently witnessing vis-à-vis national politics, that is the higher judiciary's absolute lack of command, seems to be evident in BTLK's manipulation of the building rules. While you have notably pointed out BTLK's acts of misappropriations, what is the legal position of the actual property owners? Sometime ago, the residents had apparently staged a protest to get possession of the original property documents. If that, indeed, was the case, what is the current position?
