This song was written by the well-known songwriting and producing team of Jeff Barry and Ellie Greenwich. It was originally a hit by the Exciters, a girl group. Shortly after that, in 1964, it was a huge hit by Manfred Mann. Neil Diamond did this on an album that paid tribute to songwriting teams of the 1960s. Barry and Greenwich also produced his early hits on Bang.
