BAIC Beijing X55 review

Beijing Automotive Industry Corporation, or BAIC (pronounced "bike"), as it likes to be called is a Chinese brand that has been around since 1958 (so, not quite 100 years as I mistakenly mention in the video). Within its portfolio, the Beijing brand offers suitably premium touches and elevated levels of sophistication compared with the somewhat more basic BAIC-branded products.
The first Beijing model to launch in South Africa is the X55. We've been behind the wheel.

I own the BAIC X55 Premium, have it for abt 6 months now. It's an awesome car, I test drove the Chery tiggo 4 and 7, the OMODA has the same engine as those. The X55 is head and shoulders above, way more powerful, it's fun to drive, the Chery tiggo 4 and 7 do nothing when you put your foot down... There are no competitors to it at this price point when you bring the power and torque figures, 130kw and 305 torque. I'm averaging 8.5l to the 100, mixed highway and inner roads. If you want toys and tech, go haval or Chery, if you want performance and semi luxury on a budget, pick this car. In terms of reliability, I took a wrong turn whilst on holiday, ended up on a crazy 4X4 trail, drove an hour on it , lost cell signal, this car got my family and I out of that terrible situation. It will not fall apart on you. Cheers

I bought Beijing Baic in 2023 with stunning look of it inside and outside. 2024 I was in an accident , to my surprise it has taken two months wating for the parts to arrive in SA. I am so annoyed , and I love this car too much. Its a warning if you want to buy them. I will still buy it for its security and comfort.

How are you finding the parking sensors? I recently bought this for my wife, and the beeping is endless. Any advice on how to turn it off perhaps?

Yes, Chinese cars do like to beep. I can only think that you could ask the dealership to somehow mute - or disable this function

You need to change front plates to smaller plates, the sensors sense the normal long plates.

Good question. No, you can mirror your phone via an App, but the BAIC doesn't currently sync with either CarPlay or Android Auto

I thought we covered this in a previous reply. In order to pair your smartphone to the BAIC's infotainment system, you need to use another App
