@@Mon-Ki I had the chance to play the Ky match-up with Adrian Riven, Frosted and RuffianNJ and I came to the realization that dash blocking was an amazing and relatively non-committal defensive option in the match-up. Ended up labbing my dash block execution and I just incorporated it in tower games too (even in other MUs) to get comfortable with it.

@@steffanhymer1285 I don´t think it needs to have more active frames. What is truly needed is a better reward for landing it. The damage is nice but it doesn´t really get you anywhere. You are still stuck in the corner with neutral gamestate. If you could get an IAD Tatami after it the reward would outweight the risk but right now it´s not really worth it. I mean Leo gets free backstance after his heavy dp and has far more uses for that move. Meanwhile Baiken gets damage and back into neutral which is something she has disadvantage in most matchups.

Basically if you outrange here without enough recovery for her to punish you, she has to overextend. But if she knock you down once her mix is almost on par with millia's, maybe even better cuz or the damage she gets and it can loop into another mix. With or without tether (check out Diaphone). Great character that requires good neutral awareness

like @yoann said she needs to overextend. With her low hp she is hard to brawl with. Her mix is strong but meter heavy to convert. I think the high damage offsets it. Sick character that requires character mastery. Position on screen and weight of opponent also matters.

@@raivin7172 yeah, I feel like the reason why she was kinda rare in Xrd is because she came late by the time the game was wrapping up, so everyone was either already locked on their main or didn't want to start with a new character in a expanded meta. Obviously that isn't the case in strive but that was the main reason why she was rare, and why many people who see people say "yeah I main Baiken" think they aren't actually playing the game, but are just fans of the character Anyway,thanks for coming to my ted talk

@@blyat8832 I think the reason that the meme exists is specifically because she came so late. So all the people who knew *of* GG but never played it said, "Oh Baiken looks kinda nice!" and then couldn't be bothered to play because Xrd was out long enough that they didn't want to buy it/play it that far off from release. As far as I remember, nobody was memeing about Baiken having the most mains and least players during GGXX #Reload (my start) and AC/+R days. Partially Max (no hate,) partially porn. That's my take.

I think her defensive and counter poke options are only OK if they out range FS because at that point all you can do is J.S to command that space; and is so committal even if you can kinda make it safe sometimes with Yozansen. FS is great if they have to contest you like Ky though. FS doesn't have a lot of cancel options to convert also.

As you've said, her normals have short reach. Most of them make her stay in place unlike most of the cast, everyone either have range or moves forward with their normals or skills. Baiken's a very risky character to play because you really need to use your braincells just to find ways to get in.

Yeah, the hitbox is very very thin and short. A great QOL buff for her would be to make sure she can kabari H hits consistently. It's specially bad when you get air hits with it and doubly so when you're tethered.

j.d is great but yozonsen works pretty damn well in air to air especially against milia or characters that can get above you, even if they block you are + and on hit you can convert to full combo + oki. what she lacks is conversions at the mid range, she can't confirm from f.S or 2S on normal hit and unless you are super close allot of her strings won't combo into tatami and that's her only route available. unless you land 2k,5k,2D or 6k fairly close then tatami whiffs but her 5k & 6K leave you + if you land them at tip range so in order to get damage you need to play closer but that negates the benifits she has at that range with 5k,6k and H works at that range with the disjoint. if you land counter hits then you are all good lol

I think he doesn’t want to look for foudre arc so hard that Ky can get away with the other options. It’s all about the mental stack. Instead he’s doing dash up blocks, which defends well against everything and eventually puts himself in a position where he can challenge with little risk.

Baiken is too honest. She may deal good damage when opening up opponents but she does not get many chances and her options to open up are bad. THIS is the main reason she loses games and is too unreliable for tournament play. Tk. Youzansen is the only cheesy move she got and you can't use it without meter as it is minus on block and doesn't deal enough damage to risk it. All it does without meter is conditioning the opponent to block high after 5k or cl.S. Again, she is super slow which is why she does not get many turns. She gets zoned a lot and deleted during oki if she cannot establish Higari as a threat. Even the best Baiken players won't be able to do that because the rounds are over too quickly. Playing Baiken is a huge gamble. Compare her to other Strive characters. She does not fit in the game. Strive characters need to designed around cheese fundamentally. Take a look at Millia. She is fast and unblockable. Her mixup options have more variety than Baiken's but she also gets more turns and can close the gap much quicker. Giovanna's strike/throw is super hard to deal with. She is basically sticking to the opponent with her quick dashes and plus frames. I-No's high-low/throw mixups also are permanent and you can't escape her once he gets in and she can force herself in. Ram, Zato and Nago control a lot of screen space. You have to play THEIR game. Sol, Leo and May ungabunga brainlessly to victory. Baiken cannot be played with low brain activity.

I main Baiken and she's a badass, but she is hard to master. Theres alot of nuisances to her Kabaris. Take the combo he missed around 17:30 for example, the are alot situations you can hit the opponent with close 5S, and theres situations where you can't...its hard to know when this occurs (best thing may be to use 5k instead). I also have situations where I can't land a kabari HS at the end of a combo, and I don't know what triggers this situation.

I know what you mean. I make it a thing to be wary of the opponents height during the combo. It's best to go into training mode and test the same combo on different weight classes.
