I was out for an impromptu overnight camp with the Outhaus 4x3 tarp to test a stealth tent configuration and cook some burgers with a good friend Tim who came to visit for a few hours. Unfortunately the high winds that I thought could play havoc did indeed start dropping some debris. I made the decision to leave with Tim rather than risk any windowmakers ruining the night.

Nice one Liam, I love that tarp set up and used it on days out in the woods. If you get the feeling that you should bail, bail. Intuition is good advice. Sometimes you just need the day out to reset, no need for an overnight. I’m loving my BAERskin hoodie, I just throw my pacamac over if it’s raining. Can’t wait to catch up with you and Ellie again. Stay Primal All the best fella 💚🔥

Thank you for this video. Over my 60 years of camping experience, I have watched countless individuals string up their tarps and tents too tightly, only to see them tear or leak when the dew falls or the rains come. Dry canvas should not be set up tight. Allow 15% for shrinkage, even if it is used canvas and has previously been wet. Leaving a bit of slack will save your tent or tarp. In addition, it will be more nearly waterproof, even if untreated.

You're more than welcome! Thanks for watching 🙏 That is a great bit of advice, not only is canvas heavy, putting extra strain on the stitching but as you say you're stretching the weave. 🙏🔥

From one hobbit to another who spends as many days under them trees and in the field i can safely say you made the right call and im sure your walk in next time will prove that. The forests and places i go have had a good beating recently but i also take on board the fact thats natures way of resetting things. Secondly that new tarp is lovely, the time and attention to detail on the setup made it all look snug. Hope to see you before spring my friend And look forward to the live stream Ryan

A wise man bails from the woods when the wind picks up an idiot stays. 🙂 The tarp setup is great, I used the same setup quite a few times last year with my DD 3x3 tarp. It's a great low profile setup that gives good protection.

As you say, there's no shame in calling it if it's not safe. I drove up to Scotland from Cumbria in December for a solo wildcamp. On the way up there was a weather warning for strong winds. In hindsight I should have turned back right then, but forged on, got there and trudged around in high winds and driving rain for a bit before deciding to call it. There were numerous trees blown down and it would have been an uncomfortable, nervous night. Glad I didn't stay. I got back on the horse a week later 👍
