Baja, Mexico San Carlos to Playa el Requeson (Day 5)

In this video I explore more of Baja leaving the nice hotel in San Carlos, a whale watching and fishing village on my way to Playa el Requeson that sits inside Bahia Concepcion. I did some offroad riding in extreme heat and found more fantastic fish tacos. The beach was everything I had set out to find. The KTM 390 Adventure had been running great and did everything I asked of it. Join me for some more Baja experiences.

Hey Matt, great stuff. Quick question - what made you switch from the GS in your earlier videos to the 390ADV? Sorry if you addressed this already, I was just curious as a former GSA owner.

Great question, I have covered it but I dont mind answering you. The front shock starting leaking on the GS last summer from all the offroad riding, thankfully under warranty. I was told the repair would have cost me $3k. It was a harsh reality that if I kept riding the beast offroad it was going to get expensive. The maintenance costs were already quite expensive, so that was one factor. The other major factor is, I primarily ride alone and in remote places. If I dropped the GS in some of these places I wasnt sure I would get it back up. I took a short trip on a small bike last summer and loved it, which prompted me to start looking at smaller capacity, lighter and less expensive bike. After a lot of research and deliberation I settled on the 390 Adv and I remain really happy with this choice. My older videos cover this a bit more. Thanks for asking.

@@advmatt I totally understand that, I had some similar sticker shock regarding some repairs on mine too that spooked me on the cost of ownership. I’ve been looking at the 390ADV or I might hold out for the new KLR redesign. Keep up the great content!

Were you missing your BMW on your Baja trip or glad you took the baby KTM due to all the unimproved dirt/gravel roads?

I only missed electronic cruise control. I enjoy riding the KTM a bit more. It is more nimble and easier to ride offroad. I never needed the power from the GS, and both bikes are about as equally comfortable for me.

@@advmatt thx for your reply! I get it with all the off-road riding. Do you have any plans to venture up to the Pacific NW this summer? I'm in Oregon and have trips planned for Idaho/MT and NorCal/Nev this summer.

@@rogermeyer860 unfortunately I wont make it up there this summer. My next big trip is to Yellowstone, Tetons and then to Overland Expo Mountain at the end of August. Not sure what comes after that. Cheers.
