This is the first time I’ve heard someone not Mexican talk about the bajo quinto. Great video! Thanks for sharing.

Awesome video. My grandparents in Monterrey talked about Platon Garza, who was said to be first person to use a bajo sexto in Santiago, Nuevo Leon around late 1800's-early 1900s. Of course the first to record music with a bajo sexto was Tomas Ortiz from Los Alegres De Teran. Another note, If you look up Los Hermanos Cardenas, they played lots of Mazurkas and Polkas from that era.

I'm native born Mexican and now a naturalized American citizen, growing among relative musicians and started to wanna learn how to play an instrument, but no one had accordions pianos or brass instruments, only guitars. And I started to pickup an instrument since I was around 8 years old. And been playing music for more than 50 years. Accordion, guitar, bajosexto, upright bass, keyboard, saxophone, bass guitar, and very basic drum playing. But I listened to your video about your Candela bajoquinto, and your interview with Bajosexto pro. Musician Marco Polo. Man!! Congratulations!! Mark, I can tell you,ve done intensive research on bajoquintos and their origin, plus their culture. Keep up the great work!

Hello! Try the Luis Díaz- Santana research on norteña music, some articles about bajosexto an the norteña music in general, part of a complete book, in English and Spanish . Nice video! Greetings from north Mexico! The bajoquintos from Oaxaca and Morelos perhaps are not the same as the norteño bajoquinto, derived from the traditional bajosexto.

Very interesting and educational.. Thank you for posting. One question that I have been unable to ge an answer to. Are acoustic guitar strings interchangable with bajo quinto strings as long as they are all wound
@markkilianschannel2 жыл бұрын
Thanx! Well I buy specific Bajo Quinto string packs, but if those aren’t available to you, I suppose it would work however, you’ll need one or two strings from an acoustic bass set of strings also as the 6 string guitar strings won’t be low enough. More economical to buy a set of Bajo Quinto strings methinx, even if you have order from out of country.

@@markkilianschannel Thanks for answering Mark. I'm just experimenting trying to learn new stuff plus trying to make my bajo action a little easier to play.

Have you ever heard of any Bajo Quinto players who tune down a half step? Thank you Mark.
@markkilianschannel2 жыл бұрын
You know, I once saw a KZbin video where a bajo player did exactly that. But it was because he wanted to play some rock/metal on his bajo. Unfortunately I just cannot for the life of me remember what channel that was or where I found it.
