English lyrics right below ↓ Golden Bagatin (1) Above river Tminka there is a mountain, Mighty and high it rises to skies, All people love it, but none really likes it Because, they say, it hides golden mines. There were many poor men that went up to it, Searching in its caves for its golden ore, But none of them ever really did find it, With empty bags they always returned. O Bagatin, why don't you give your gold, Why do you leave me to remain a poor man, In the valley beneath you always poverty prevailed, Each struggles as they know and as they can. One day also men from Čadrg (2) went up to explore, Their names were Tony, Joseph and John, And if they couldn't find the golden ore, Joseph took with him the black book, Kalamon (3). Joseph and John let Tony go first in the cave, They said, you go tony, you're still like a boy, And Tony for some time dug around with his hoe, But all that he found inside were stones and a rock. O Bagatin, why don't you give your gold, Why do you leave me to remain a poor man, In the valley beneath you always poverty prevailed, Each struggles as they know and as they can. Like a toad for some time tony kept digging inside, When he realized there was nothing else left, He started out loud to read from Kalamon, Perkmandi (4) give ore or we’ll have a mass. When Joseph and John heard what's going on, They saw that Tony is calling the devil, Both of them had their pants full of shit, But tony still could not find nothing but grovel. O Bagatin, why don't you give your gold, Why do you leave me to remain a poor man, In the valley beneath you always poverty prevailed, Each struggles as they know and as they can. Men from Čadrg like all men before them, Finally realized that this hunt was in vain, They took all their bags and all of their belongings, And returned to their homes beaten down like toads. Up to this day above Tminka still stands Bagatin, Calling to all poor people wide and far, And it is calling to you, with your empty wallet, Maybe you get it to surrender its treasures. (1) : Bagatin (Bogatin) in Slovenian language means a rich man, but in this case it's a name of a mountain. (2) : Čadrg is a village in Tolminka valley. (3) : Kalamon is a book supposedly used to call the devil, also called the black book (by christians), but it was most probably a collection of healing spells and chants of the old pre-christian religious tradition. (4) : In Slovenian folklore Šperkmandi (Perkmandeljc) was originally a mine dwarf, but it was later demonized.
