I commented last week that Hermine and Peter were going to be head to head in the final. I was GUTTED when Laura didn't go home. She's been terribly inconsistent it's like a roller coaster. She's not going to win for sure That being said, I agree with Trav here. Hermine's week was.....not good in any sense of the word. And yeah, her past talent and skill did put a harsher expectation on her when she didn't do well. Matt is finally growing on me. C:

I love that Teresa likes spoilers! And for the exact same reason I do. I’ve had arguments with friends about me looking up stuff and ‘ruining’ everything. It’s nice to know that at least one other person feels the same.

"oooo saucy paul!" God damnit I love you Travis. But yeah me and my mom watch together and as soon as the episode started and they were like "This is your week Hermine! You're so good at Patisserie!" I was like "ah crap, that's not a good sign that the editors decided to focus on this. It either means she did really well or really bad". Then after the signature didn't go well I already kinda guessed it was her last week. By the end when she was like "I'm just winging it" essentially for the Showstopper I do think she had given up in a way. Whether that was her getting too far into her own head or something else external (maybe a personal matter), idk but it was a shame. She was my favorite and I was really hoping to see her in the final. I had it between her and Peter for winner. Honestly I think the biggest surprise for me has been Laura. Nothing personal against her but I'm amazed she's managed to last this long. She has some good skills but she consistently gets flustered and I feel like for the last 3-4 weeks she's just been saved by the fact that someone else has done slightly worse. All that being said, as we go into finals, it just matters who's best and at this point it's down to Dave and Peter I feel. While Peter is def the more likely I think Dave has done some massive improvements after a strong start, weak middle, and great rise throughout the season. Can't wait to see what the challenges will be!

I didn’t even know there were issues until I read discussions. The larger issue I think is just the way the comp is set up. I don’t like how the previous weeks don’t matter at all

Yup! You can be middle of the pack, or even second to last in Bake Off all season and still be able to win the competition (theoretically).

counterpoint: I love that the previous weeks don't matter because every week, there's a chance my favorite baker might go home. Otherwise, I'd be like, "well Hermine CANT go home." Which removes all the tension. Is it unfair? probably. But it makes the show engaging.

Okay so for the math of the cube cake, there were 25 squares of cake. The top layer had 9, and the middle and bottom layers had 8 squares each, with the center squares being left cakeless for structural supports

I too like spoilers. When I explain it to people, I usually use the tv show Columbo. In Columbo, you immediately know who the murderer is, how they did it, why they did it, and that they will be caught. It's still one of the best shows ever made because the journey to the conclusion is still fraught with tension. Same with the original Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. They world always blew up at the end, but the journey to that conclusion was still brilliant and full of surprises. Like an infinite number of penguins. Sometimes it's the journey, not the destination.

I feel like this season was particularly weak compared to others because they had to chose from applicants willing to isolate for up to 10 weeks so there were a lot of weak bakers. In a normal season Laura wouldn’t have made it past week 5

Laura has grown on me this season but your right. She has just barely scraped by more than once this season and now it’s going to make for a lackluster finale.

Hermine should have changed her name to "Rahul" and she'd have been just fine. No offense to Laura, but Hermine would have brought competition to the final, instead of just an also-ran. Hermine was easily one of the strongest, most consistent bakers they had this season. With Hermine out, Peter from Edinburgh is my favored to win.

Hermine could have at least gone either way. I think we can all predict how Laura does. Makes a huge mess, almost drops something, and the finished bake doesn’t turn out because she fucked something up. What’s the point of even having her move on???? So annoying!!!

as a dane (and a former patisserie baker student (or whatever it’s called in english)) it was kind of frustrating watching paul describe the cornucopia thing. like he didn’t even mention that it’s the exact same thing as the kransekage that they made in a previous season. also we never use almonds we just use marcipan (sometimes made from abricot seeds for better bake stability) and we never use caramel as adhesive, we use chocolate (or if it’s a kransekage then just the royal icing) sorry for the rant, i don’t actually take it that seriously, just wanted to vent my thoughts 😅

I imagine the chocolate/caramel was a last minute substitute because of the heat. No idea about the almonds though, perhaps its a personal choice by Paul or a way to add another element.

I'm really disappointed with this year. It had a weak start, and okay middle and a terrible ending run so far. Laura shouldn't be in the final. I hope they keep Matt for the future though. Also, it airs on Tuesday in the UK

I find it interesting that Travis and Teresa were debating whether there would be a big garden party gathering of those who left over the season, friends, and family. As in the ‘Next time’ section after the exit interviews, we see exactly this, a shot from the final as Noel and Matt are ready to present the award for wining this season, there is a crowd of people watching. Although this could be those contestants who hadn’t left the hotel yet, and the crew and production team, it was odd that the McElroys didn’t even mention it. Does the USA version of GBBO not have this content?

I feel like I'm the only one who doesn't like Peter, every time I see his bakes being judged I just think he looks so desperate for their approval. It also doesn't help that it feels like the judges and hosts are openly rooting for him which they don't seem to do for Dave/Laura. Noel has said multiple times "you're my favorite" or "I'll be gutted if you're not in the final" to/about Peter.

i enjoy laura bc i feel like she was the kindest to all the other bakers in the most traditional bake off sense. i agree that she’s wildly inconsistent and hermine is a better baker, but throughout the whole season laura was the only one i was genuinely rooting for and the one i felt the most connected to. as much as i enjoy peter, he just doesn’t seem to interact w any other bakers. all that being said, laura for sure won’t win hahaha i feel like this season was a lot more boring than other ones bc i felt so disconnected from 99% of the bakers. maybe bc we didn’t get multiple clips of them at home?
