That alpaca thing is infuriating.. I just read about it.. Rather than do other tests, they dragged the animal away from it's owner and killed it, then it turns out tests after prove it didn't have tuberculosis after all, and there was never any concrete evidence it even had it to begin with, like the owner was saying.. I mean what the f.. Any official involved should lose their job, and probably get sued by the owner. I'd be likely to do a lot worse if it were my animal..
@Joe-ki7og3 жыл бұрын
Not true that is it, they haven't even got the tests back yet as they take months to determine. Here's the quote from the chief veterinary officer of the UK. “A number of TB-like lesions were found, and in line with standard practice, these are now undergoing further investigation. “These tests include the developing of bacteriological cultures from tissue samples which usually takes several months - we would expect to complete the full post-mortem and culture process by the end of the year.”
@GrumpDog3 жыл бұрын
@@Joe-ki7og So what? That doesn't mean what he said wasn't true. He just said what most articles are saying about it, which are claiming early autopsy results suggest it didn't have it. By your own logic, you're a few months early making a post debunking this. lol How long the test takes, is meaningless here. This bs has been going on for 4 YEARS! The government had all that time to do further tests. Supposedly the owner even had additional tests done, but the government ignored the results she provided.
@jonasquinn79773 жыл бұрын
@GrumpyDog to be fair the original comment implied that tests done after the alpacas death proved that it didn’t have TB but that’s not true because the results haven’t come back yet It’s possible that it didn’t have TB but it’s just as possible that it did

Don't worry, you're not alone in being bad at math
@knitterknerd3 жыл бұрын
I don't know if this is better or worse, but he probably didn't do the math. He probably know it off the top of his head. Not so much because he's smart (although my understanding is that he is), but just because he's used it a lot before. Intelligence can help someone learn it with fewer repetitions, but anyone would pick it up eventually. By the way, I've taught and tutored math, but I've never met anyone who's just inherently bad at math. It's just that the current popular forms of math education don't work well for everyone. I had a friend whose son had a math-related disability, but he worked hard and had good help and eventually became an engineer, meaning he made it through classes like multi-variable calculus. Don't blame yourself, you just didn't get the support you needed.

2:34 There is a Bonobo tribe at a research center who developed their own hieroglyphic/imagery based written language, learned and have been observed teaching offspring both their written language and sign language from the researchers, and even made a number of rudimentary tools and weapons, including a blade with a leaf wrapped grip for carving up a tough skinned fruit they had in the enclosure.
@cameronwilsey93343 жыл бұрын
And wild cockatoos are known to make a three part tool kit by whittling sticks with their beaks to break through a tough fruit. And other birds have been observed using bait to catch fish
@MillerJustinFS3 жыл бұрын
Those bonobo's started that because humans began teaching them. None of them really invented any of that. Yes, it is pretty awesome to see animals learning language and how to use or create tools, but that's because they're copying humans. On the other hand, there are some pretty smart birds who use and make tools, but they're known to pass knowledge down to their descendants, so maybe that's also learned.

lutfisk is like the opposite of surströmming, its the most neutral matter possible except its also got bones
@EnergyCuddles2 жыл бұрын
_Lutfisk_ and _surströmming_ both absolutely reek, and are potent in their own right, but in opposite ways. Lutfisk stinks of lye, a corrosive substance with a pH of 13 that will sterilise most things submerged in it. Surströmming, on the other hand, is slightly acidic (pH 6.3 - 6.8), but quite close to neutral (mind you, the pH scale is logarithmic!). Significantly lower pH value than that could prevent growth of harmful microbiota. As I understand it, that is instead attained with added salt to the brine that the fish ferments in. Unsure of how we do it. But fermentation does obviously occur, meaning it is far, far from sterile. In any case, the stench of surströmming signals to your body that something is deeply wrong with the source of the scent and that it might possibly be harmful to ingest; it is perfectly natural to have that kind of response even though properly fermented surströmming won't make you ill (but possibly sick all over the floor). Lye on the other hand just ... smells bad. Lutfisk is actually pretty tasty though - I used to eat it with my grandparents every Easter! =)
