But It DOES protect a person's the right to operate according to their religious beliefs. And keep in mind, Cathy wasn't trying to prohibit the couple from getting a cake baked. That's why she offered to refer them to another bakery to do the cake for them. (A perfectly fair offer on her part) But the couple refused. Instead of just going to the other bakery to get their cake baked they apparently just wanted to harrass Cathy for her decision and make a big stink out of the situation for media attention. Just getting their cake baked obviously wasn't their main priority. But anyway, the Religious Freedom Restoration Act of 1993 (RFRA), does not allow the government to pass laws or regulations that would hinder one’s ability to freely exercise his or her religion. It provides business owners the right to refuse service to customers based on the owner’s religious beliefs and whether fulfilling the customer’s request would cause the business owner to sacrifice these beliefs. At the end of the day, the best thing the customer can do is find a bakery that will accommodate them. Let others know about the bakery that refused them. And let customers decide from there.
