A perfect explanation of the dialogic principle. Congratulations for the creators of animation!

I believe exchange is a better term for the dialogic relation that "connection". This is a great video, it rounds out a lot of the underlying concepts in Bakhtin's work. These include; thought is internal dialogue, meaning operates in webs of understanding, heteroglossia, no first or last word, context, signification as material and historical, language is about cooperation and participation, voice(s), and the sense of positivity and hope that reside in Bakhtin's philosophy of language. Thanks.

McSchwejk, Thanks for the thoughts! I am not a scholar on Bakhtin, but the Rabelais work was actually written during WW2 as part of Bakhtin's dissertation. It was rejected at the time and not accepted until the relatively "liberal" period under Kruschev. Stalin even threatened in the late 20s or early 30s to send Bakhtin to Siberia--he got jail instead. Only after his death did we see broader publication (like yours) of his works. Of course, there's more to him; I wanted to focus on his (cont)

(cont) ideas for my high school literature students. Nevertheless, your conclusion that we should question his role as signifier remains spot on. Any simplification or summary of a work must be suspect, and so--as Derrida would say--the video is as much a statement of me as it is of him. This Bakhtin is a signifier of my understanding of him! Thanks again for the thoughtful response!

Its quite fascinating "how" a dialog(y) inForms via the perspective/perception of a 3rd party [or 4th party in the case of an unmanned camera recording or AI-operator] a later quadralog ("cooler talk") centered upon the methodical morphemes/semes/memes/themes/schemes mechanically contained for references expressed within particular sequences/sentences of word listings contained within that dialog(y); as critical evidences of diacritical signifiers; script.

My copy of Mikhail Bakhtin's "Rabelais and His World" states that it was previously published as Tvorchestvo Fransua Rable by Khudozhestvennia literatura in Moscow, USSR in 1965. It would seem that creator of this otherwise wonderful animation is not telling the whole truth about the repression of Bakhtin's work in USSR. I would thus question the role of this animation as a signifier.
