Not even just physical restraint, but mental. He could have simply landed the punch and claimed that Kaku was too slow to react, it wouldn't be unreasonable considering how dominant Yujiro was in this fight. Instead, he didn't hide behind his ego, he didn't want to land that punch because the old man was dead (we learn later that Yujiro can literally scan people's bodies and see any issues, he can see heart attacks and bone diseases and the likes, so he was very aware of Kaku's state).

Hes said it many times that he thinks it's for the weak. Like that one dudes high level martial art that makes a slap that tears threw flesh and kills people through sheer pain and calls it a childs game. Basically he's deemed that because he's a genius in martial arts that he can pick any one and master in seconds and can beat every martial art through pure strength then martial arts are weak. People who want to convince someone to watch this series need to point out how Kaku Kaioh is actually a brilliant satire on a lot of popular martial arts perspectives. It's interesting to me because of how he puts on that wise, humble, quirky old master facade while blatantly stating he doesn't give a damn about anyone or anything. The bit after the fight seems like such a typical quirky father and son moment until you remember how before the fight he literally explained that his son could die in front of him and it wouldn't phase him.

The absolute devotion and passion for the martial art or ultimate strength drives into a mentality wich we can call insanity. Even Baki, probably the sanest and kindest of all, is in the delirium.

He's more like a secondary protagonist the only reason he's even considered an antagonist is because baki is the name of the show and it's about this kid who has so much dumb luck he doesn't even lose that much fights grappler baki had a good setup you knew who was who in terms of Importance in the story in this anime it's confusing if you don't know the story and it is if you do know jack would be a better protagonist he has a goal and an understandable one but baki is just "I wanna be stronger than my dad" I don't know what you think though this is just my opinion take it with a grain of salt.

I was on Kaioh's side in this one. After all, Yujiro relies heavily on his natural aptitude; without the Hanma blood in his veins, blind drunk Doppo would have floored him.It's the Mary Sue gene of hand to hand combat. Kaku Kaioh was just your average guy, who dedicated over a century - literally most of his life - to the perfection of his martial art. He was able to stand up to the ogre of Japan on nothing but skill and experience. Plus, this old geezer was getting laid at 120. Most people could only dream of being that baller. In short, as the rest of the comments can attest; if I had all that going for me, I'd be cocky too.
