The 2018 baki have some CGI in it because they don't have that much budget. But after they saw how well the 2018 baki did they started to give the animation more budget so in the next netflix baki seasons the CGI has been removed. All of netflix baki after 2018 are all in 2d animation.

Btw this is not the first season of baki. There was a 48 episode anime in 2001 that this netflix series is a continuation of. The tournament mentioned where Retsu almost beat Baki was in that original anime and is probably a top 5 tournament arc of all time.

I wouldn't go so far as to call it goated. Actually I think it is one of those shows that are so bad that it actually becomes good. It is like a trainwreck, you don't want to watch it but you can't keep your eyes off of it. Some of the characters are great like Yujiro is just a fun to watch guy everytime he is on screen but others are terrible and somehow every side character gets more screentime than Baki lol. And for some weird reason literally everyon keeps making a surprised Pikachu face during every single fight. And then there is the exposition bruh stop explaining every single move all the time.

"Old Baki" and "Netflix Baki" is like "Dragon Ball" and "Dragonball Z", they are the same anime, one being the continuation of the other, but they are almost a complete different show with the same characters. I understand why people want you to watch the old one first, but is not necessaries for other than being able to say that you have watched. The Netflix series is self explanatory, and they reference and explain things that you would learn on the old series.

You miss all the initial character introductions, trainings, tournament arcs etc. You just learn "Oh a tournament happened and this guy beat this other guy, thats cool i guess?"
