I get a lot of cookbooks from the "sale" part of the local library, where you just give a donation for the books you choose, that day. I found an amazing 1970's Chinese Cookbook, it tells of many of the favorite Chinese dishes that my family likes so well. Got it for twenty-five cents, from a thrift store!

What an excellent selection of baking books! So happy to see you recommend some older books that people relatively new to baking may not be aware of, esp Rose Levy Beranbaum and the Cake Bible. I always tell people if I could choose only one baking cookbook, it would have to be this one. It is my go-to when I want to learn something new or want a definitive recipe for something. Her techniques were/are so innovative. She may be intimidating in her attention to detail, but you learn so much! Anyway, other authors that are older but who have very good recipes, esp for beginners, include Maida Heatter and Flo Braker. Another book to look out for - an oldie but goodie - is the Fannie Farmer Baking Book by Marion Cunningham. It has very good basic instructions for beginners and the recipes are very well written. This was the book I first learned to bake from :0)

Umang, substituting eggs in recipes successfully depends on the recipe. Please try recipes which are designed without eggs in them for best results.
