Ever heard of cooking chicken in clay? No? Bet many would not have heard of this method of cooking chicken in clay. Cooking chicken in clay is an ancient method of preparing chicken. In this method, whole free range chicken is applied with traditional masala, wrapped with banana leaves and packed with raw clay. The shaped clay mould is then kept on fire and baked until it’s done.
Whole chicken packed in clay will need at least 2-3 hours to get cooked in a live fire nest as shown in the video. We need explain to you about the benefits of clay pot cooking. Clay is porous. This circulates the moisture and heat through the chicken. Clay can stand high temperature.
As the heat increases, chicken wrapped inside the banana leaves and packed with clay start to release water. Meat will get cooked in its own juices and keep the meat moist.
The biggest advantage of eating chicken cooked in clay is that in this method not even a single drop of oil is used. It’s all natural ingredients used here. Are you diet conscious? Are you willing to lose that extra fat from your body? Are you hitting the gym and working out to add muscles and lose fat? Then clay chicken is what you guys need to try for sure.
Try this ancient cooking method and leave your feedback in the comments section below.
Farm Food Factory is here to revive traditional cooking followed by our ancestors right from the times of Indus Valley Civilization.

@@FarmFoodFactory Of course I will tell you all how the experiment went. I was 104kg, and this morning 89.9kg so 14kg down and 4kg to go before I'm at my BMI. I think I'm allowed a little treat, don't you? It is autumn here so I have to see if the banana tree has usable leaves and find some clay soil. In France we do something similar. We take a shoulder of lamb, or a chicken, duck or pigeon or basically whatever you want, season it, and then we use water and sea salt and flour to make a thick paste, which we completely cover the food with. OK we don't dig a big hole and cook on charcoal embers, we chuck it in the oven at 150c for a long slow cook. Like your clay mix, the salt flour paste seals in the juices and bakes the meat to perfection. My Viking ancestors used to dig big holes, heat up rocks in a fire, tip the hot rocks in the hole, chuck in the seasoned meat, more rocks and then put a thick cloth on top which was covered with sand or soil to seal in the heat. Works a treat with vegetables too. This technique was employed by cultures all across the globe and is still a favorite today in certain parts. I was in Vietnam wandering around and I came across two ladies cleaning a large fat duck by a canal. I stopped to watch them. They rubbed the entire bird inside and out in chopped garlic, lemon grass, coconut milk, salt, pepper and then hung it by its wings on a wire. They had this enormous empty Ghee tin with a small hole in the top. They fed the wire through the little hole and let the duck hang inside the tin. They placed this tin on a large metal sheet and covered the whole thing in a massive amount of straw. They set fire to the straw and kept adding more as it burned. The whole bird was completely cooked in 15 minutes flat! perfectly roasted, slightly caramelized. The smell was divine. It tasted fantastic. This Ghee tin seemed to work like a microwave oven. I could not believe how quickly it cooked. I have done this exact same technique for friends here in Europe. People love to see the whole process. Food brings people and their cultures together. In these troubled times we need to all be together. We'll have to deal with the bad guys first. You know what I'm referring to!

Your method is simple and delicious, it has been baked for a long time, because I have tried it, but I have to say the result is very attractive and fragrant, because I am using Vietnamese-style clay ^^

It cooks in its own juices and fat. So it's great. This method dates back to the Ice Ages and the time of the hunter-gatherers. Game meat is far tougher than our broiler chickens of the modern era. They cooked haunches of meat from all types of animals in stone pits in which fire was built and then smothered after it burned down to coals. Meat was seasoned with leaves and herbs and whatever vegetables they were able to find growing were wrapped with the meat and wrapped and coated like shown and then put in the pit. The pit was then covered up with earth, hot stones from the sides of the pit weighted it down and a small fire was built above it and tended carefully for 6-8 hours in some cases. Very well-made video i must say. Good effort by our Kannadigas.
