When I worked at Estee Lauder 20 some years ago, my customers would be so nervous about the new eyeshadow I put on them. "Trust the process" was basically "wait for the magic", "trust me, you'll love it", or "look at my eyeshadow, I'm doing yours the same way". I would finish with face powder over the whole eye lid, like its own layer of eyeshadow, but not a heavy bake and it melted it all together. Afterwards is when we did liner and mascara because we wanted the high impact of those pigments and not the diffusion of the lid. Once done, every client bought eyeshadow, powder, or both. I really enjoyed that job and learned so much.

@X3AmySarah I totally agree! They started teaching me right away. I thought I knew everything about makeup and was so happy to learn new techniques. Some of the things we were taught I haven't seen today's makeup artists or popular creaters share. Although today's people now do things, we didn't in my time, like primer and setting spray. Eyeshadow is a powder that sets the base. If it's creasing, you probably have too much base or you didn't put enough eyeshadow to set, especially if the base is oily. This is not needed unless you're using a cream shadow and I would use a clear setting powder followed by a setting spray to bring back the pigment.

We didn't call it baking, but I always covered the whole face with powder. It works really nicely if you use an old model's trick of separating the 2 ply of a tissue and put one over your face, then gently pounce on your powder. The tissue layer gives you a light layer of powder that's easily blended. We covered the whole face - we didn't have primers or setting sprays, which really aren't necessary if you layer the makeup correctly.

I've been trying to come up with fading makeup looks. It comes off through the day but as it comes off you get a whole new look. I did a simple pink that faded into rose gold the other day. I was so happy that it worked but I messed up and put setting spray on so the fade happened at 11 at night. Next time I'll do it right. I guess though if you get off work and go party you don't have to redo your makeup. Midnight on Friday was when I got started partying when I was younger. It would've been perfect for that. I wanted a quicker fade though.

On sundays she did that face at 7am went to church, sung in the choir, came home and cooked and it didnt smudge. It looked better later in the day from all the steam she got while cooking and boiling food lol Then she used an Avon cold cream to take it all off at night ❤❤❤ I miss her sweet face!

My powder eyeshadow doesn't crease, and I don't have expensive pallettes. You would only really need this on cream products. Powder on powder isn't going to do anything but diffuse, and you don't need to bake it for that. Just blend it with light loose powder if you want it diffused. (Also, don't do that over eyeliner and mascara unless you want to use multiple coats just to reapply)

Back in the day, when I became a makeup artist, we never used the word bake, we said, "Set our makeup. I've been a makeup artist for 30 years, and a lot of trends are silly, in my opinion. Makeup can be fun and look beautiful, but it shouldn't be adding tons of heavy layers looking caked on, causing you to repeat your makeup application. Stop the madness, lol!!😊

I can just imagine all the powder going into my eyes. If you’re using decent shadows and a primer then you shouldn’t have creasing and if you want a diffused eye look then just go over the whole thing with a matte light transition shade. It will achieve the same effect and is safe for the eye area
