Dyrehavsbakken (Baken for short) is the oldest - and still existing - amusement park in the world. It is located in Klampenborg, on the outskirts of the Danish capital Copenhagen.
The forest area in which the park is located is known as Dyrehaven, which means "animal park". Bakken is Danish for "hill". A literal translation of the name of the park is therefore "the Zoo Hill".
The park does not charge an entrance fee but charges money for each attraction. You can also buy a day ticket with access to all attractions. The wooded area and many access paths provide a free, open atmosphere that is unique to the amusement park. With 2.7 million visitors per year, Dyrehavsbakken is the second largest amusement park in Denmark, after Tivoli.
Only 10 minutes drive north of Copenhagen you find the oldest amusement park in the world. Located in the woods of Dyrehaven, Bakken is a unique amusement park, which offers a historic and nostalgic venue combined with modern and fun amusements and thrill rides.
Bakken may have started as a place to get clean spring water, but today it is a thriving amusement park filled with modern rides and amenities. Bakken is home to five roller coasters, the most famous of which is Rutschebanen (lit. 'Roller coaster'), a wooden roller coaster open since 1932.
