@@JamesKing2understandinglife that does not mean anything, fish don't usually show signs of depression that easily, but I can clearly tell ur bala sharks are depressed as they are not swimming around as healthy and happy bala sharks do, meaning they are extremely unhappy. Bala sharks NEED a lot, A LOT, of room to swim as they are rapid swimmers. And your eel, well, what can I say? It outgrowed your tank long ago. Dude, get a grip.

This tank is way too small for two Bala sharks, let alone everything else in there.
@JamesKing2understandinglife5 жыл бұрын
It is amazing to many experts how successful a person can be keeping fish in tanks that are said to be too small. It is true that Bala sharks are to skittish and grow too large to be in any size tank where they can smash into the glass. They are wonderful fish to keep and observe their interesting behaviors at least until they become too large or skittish.

I do not have a larger tank, The bala sharks grow quite large and when scared by anything smash into the walls of any tank with a dangerous amount of force. I take great effort to never scare the fire eel. On the rare occasion over the years I have had her , she absolutely knocks lids and sand and water all over when she is scared which sometimes happened during water changes.

Hi James, enjoyed watching your video. I have 3 bara sharks in my 6 foot long tank, I keep them with my American cichlids, I have 3 large chocolate cichlids that are very peaceful indeed. I also keep several types of other cichlids in this tank and most of 5he time they get along very well. I did have a large breeding pair of jack Dempsey since in this tank but had to move them to another tank when they breed as they were very protective to their young fry. You said you have had your baba shark for 2-3 years. Well they must be almost fully grown by now. My shark are approximately 9-10 inches so they have a few more inches to grown. Occasionally they swim very fast from one end of the tank to the other which is great to watch. I can imagine what they would be like is a 10 tank. They are Awesome fish. Your ell is amazing. Take care.

@JamesKing2understandinglife4 жыл бұрын
Flake foods are too little to fill their huge appetites. They do have relatively small mouths. Shrimp pellets and other pelleted fish foods, and all sorts of meaty fish foods. When you look into your aquarium assess whether your fish is hungry and drop a little bit of food in every time it seems hungry...if it eats it all great. If it is disinterested. Try a different food. They grow to be very large with enough foods and good water quality. They are spooky fish...They get scared quite easily by my movements.

This is absolutely not good at all. They are not responding normally to the tank conditions that you have placed them in. Have you had fish before? Is the water contaminated? Are other fish doing well in the tank? Bala sharks are very active fish normally and lie on the tank bottom when they are dieing. Sorry.

I have a 6 inch bala in a 55 gal and I’m going to up his tank size next spring(maybe should get another bala too- he’s become calm and has enough space atm to not bash against the wall when he gets startled at least). Given they swim around a lot and at that large a size can way easily injure themself against a tank wall as you say, at least up it to a 75 gal, if not 150 or so. This is my first bala shark(had for bit over 2 years now?), and first tank, but I’ve heard around from people with experience and profession in the field. Also dayum that eel is huge. Idk much about large eels though.
