Thank you for this! I am a SUPER-beginner crocheter and loved this design. I decided to be brave and go for it. Your instruction made it really easy to follow and execute. My end result was a little wonky as I used a bigger bulk yarn and wasn't consistent with the tension of each stitch. Total beginner's learning curve, but considering how well it turned out as my first completed crochet project, speaks to the clarity of this video. Thank you!

@BX_QUEEN_19 go for it!!!! use the merino wool suggested and try and use firm tension...its on the bigger size...which is how it's meant to fit. It's lovely and really easy following along with the instructions! Much luck to you 🫶

I loved that you tell us the lengths in cm as well as in stitches, so that if we wanted to use a different weight of yarn but end up with the same size we can, thank you! 🥰

Size and type of yarn make a huge difference in the measurements. I just finished this and I had to add several more rows to the hood before I could even consider closing the top. My yarn is Loops&Threads impeccable acrylic, medium (4), with the label recommended 5mm hook and 6mm hook for the hood portion. The hood ended up not as deep as the one shown in this video. Also, the mannequin head is child sized and the woman is actually quite small. If you're an adult over 6 feet tall like the person whom I made this for, measure around their neck and add 2.5cm (1in) for the turtle neck portion. Double the increases per row for the first portion of the hood (starting with the 2nd row after the first row of increases: 2 half double crochetes in the first and second stitches and the last 2 stitches of the rows). Then, for the second part of the hood, continue as instructed in the video but with extra rows. By the end, my hood is at 35cm in length and I should have gone a little more. I followed the video and didn't add the extra increases that I'm recommending doing. It definitely is not deep enough to fold back like she does in the video which is why I say she is particularly small. The person I made this for looks like an assassin's creed badass so I'm not saying this is a bad outcome but it's not what I was going for with it either. Good pattern but I'm altering it for the next one!

Thanks! I just finished my first hood and I had the same problem. It’s just not loose enough. It fits me, but it’s not the style of the video and just too tight. Luckily my little sister asked if she could have a hood too. So this one I made goes to her. Hopefully it fits and looks better on her. I definitely will do another one for me and my mother. I‘ll try what you’ve said, thank you so much!

Interesting outcome🤔...did you use different wool? I used the suggested merino and followed to a tee. Its perfect....My head is on the smaller size but I find the fold over hood is actually a tad on the large size. I feel like the measurements are perfect for a small to average framed woman. Much luck on your next one!!💜
@EngelchenNele2000
@EngelchenNele2000 11 ай бұрын
@@savinabees9220 yes I used a more chunky yarn with hook size 10 on the first one. For the second one I used also chunky yarn but not as chunky as the first one (hook size 8). The second one turned out more fitting but still a bit small/tight for me. The neck part was perfect but the hood is not as loose as I wanted to. It fits my head but it’s just too tight for my taste if that makes sense? For the third one I used the wool baby snuggle from hobbi. The neck part was a bit tighter here although I did the exact same length and width as in the second. For the hood part I did what the original commentator said. I did a double increase for the first 3-4 rows (so 2 stitches with increases on each side) to have more width. Then continued to do the normal increases of the video. Also I did 18,5cm instead of 17cm to have the width I wanted. After finishing the recommended 30cm I just tried it on to see what it might look like. Same as in the second one, fits but too tight. So I did more rows to end up with the fit I wanted to. In the end I had about 37cm length for the hood. So I don’t know if yarn matters or not. I would say it kinda does but also the fits were quite similar with the recommended cm of the video. Maybe it turns out a bit tighter or looser but that’s just to the stretchiness of the wool I guess. For a perfect outcome I would recommend measuring your neck and your head. I measured from the back of my head to my forehead to have the width of the hood and added about 2cm. For the length of the hood and the neck part I would recommend to just try it on and see if you have to add more or not.

I just wanted to pass along my thanks. My daughter and her family moved to Alaska this past spring. Thank you so much for this! The last time I had tried crocheting anything was over 20 years ago at school and I was REALLY bad at it, but with some encouragement from friends and this clear and precise video I'm very proud of the result! I made the hood intentionally a bit looser than in the video, but with such easy instructions it was a very easy modification to make. Also thank you so so so much for adding the measurements in centimeters, since I had a bit different thickness of the yarn, but as I aimed for the centimeter-measurements instead of the exact number of the rows it still came a very nice fit. I never would have thought that I could crochet something like this. This was an immense confidence boost!

I’ve made two of these projects so far! The pattern is super easy to follow, for the first hood I followed the pattern exactly and the second try I’m adding extra rows for a looser fit around my head. I also doubled up on yarn and it created a thick, well shaped hood! I wear it around my neck with a scarf usually and the hood is easy to pull up for chillier days.

Thank you for the tutorial. My 5wieight yarn was alot thicker than yours so it worked up pretty quick. Luckily your exact measurements fit me perfectly, but I'll need to adjust for family members. Only thing I did differently was did two rounds of single chrochet aroud the hood to hide the increases on the hood and to give it a rounder shape. Thanks again!

Different number of stitches and rows, same result in cm. I like the look of thick wool best though :D More often than not I only have thin wool, then I combine them. Gives a nice color effect.

Thank you so much! Absolutely wonderful tutorial. You explain things very well, and unlike some of the other tutorials I have seen the shots are clear enough that I can see each stitch. I have been looking for something exactly like this that was cute enough that I'd actually wear, but still very warm. I recently moved to a new state that reaches -30ºC in the winter, so keeping my face warm while walking through the freezing wind was pretty high on my priority list. I decided to make the pattern in super bulky yarn with a size 9mm and 10mm crochet hook, since that was the weight of the wool I had available to make the pattern and I knew it would be much faster. I have had no problems translating the pattern with my yarn and crochet hook differences for the cowl/neck portion. Hoping the hood works just as well.

It does say what weight the yarn is in, which is Yarn Group C which is the equivalent to worsted/aran, 10 ply, or DK. Drops yarn uses yarn groups, A through F. A being Fingering, 2 ply, Fingering/Sport/Lace and F being Super Chunky, Super Bulky/Jumbo. I suppose they use yarn groups rather than weight or ply because their yarn sizes are less consistent lot by lot due to the natural material and texture variances due to those natural fibers. That's why their group C falls into DK as well because sometimes it can be DK/10 ply that takes a 5.0mm to 7.0mm hook just like worsted/aran, vs DK that takes a 3.5 to 5.0mm hook, like Sport/DK-Worsted/4ply.

You are simply great. I will surely follow this tutorial and try this project. Do you have advice how to choose what size hooks I need if I already bought the yarn.... mine seems thinner than the one that you are using.

This is a cool pattern, your audio cuts out on some of the explanation, when measuring the hoodie part it cuts out how many rows so all I could get was the measurements
