Balakot & Operation Swift Retort Explained | Operation Swift Retort 2019

This video will analyze these key events, provide background, give an overview of Operation Swift Retort.
On February 26th, 2019, tensions between India and Pakistan escalated after the Indian Air Force conducted airstrikes on Balakot, Pakistan. The next day on February 27th, Pakistan Air Force retaliated and struck targets in Indian territory. This sparked an aerial dogfight between Indian and Pakistani fighter jets. In the ensuing combat, an Indian MiG-21 and Su-30 Mki was shot down by Pakistan Airforce and its pilot Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman was captured by the Pakistani military. The capture of Wing Commander Abhinandan also became a major flashpoint, who was ultimately released by Pakistan as a "peace gesture" bringing the immediate crisis to an end while animosities continued.
The incidents thereafter became known as "Operation Swift Retort" by the Pakistani military.
